Honda Dealership Valve Adjustment

Well I have been stupid in recent months and hit the rev limiter hard quite a few times....two questions:

1. How do I know for sure that I need a valve-adjustment ( I have heard people say that if your engine "clicks" you need one, but this is too vague)

2. I will NOT do this myself so dont even say it.....about how much/long should I expect from Honda to do it??

Thanks guys

The only sure way to know if you need a valve adjustment is to take the valve cover off and measure to see if they are too tight or loose. The ticking sound is sometimes an indication that they might need adjustment.
If you take it to the dealer, be prepared to leave it ovenight. The engine must be cold to get the proper measurement/spacing.
You don't have to do it yourself, but it is a major inconvience dropping the car off @ the dealer.

Depending which "ticking sound" you're talking about, that's normal. I just had mine adjusted today for about $80-something (I had a 10% coupon). Took about an hour and a half. Turns out that wasn't even my problem though! My car was still making the "rattling" noise that I thought adjusting the valves would fix (turns out it's a timing belt thing )

it is suggested to get your valves adjusted every 30,000 miles..i just had mine done...it was 130......and it took about 1 hour.....honda tells you about 1-2 hours...depending on how long it takes for your car to cool down....i got it done, and noticed a difference in the car itself...

Hey man. My name is Alex - I met some of you guys from Tech-9-Tuning at the Nassau Coliseum car show. Steve and his 99 Green Prelude and then I hung out with the team a few times - mainly Pete (Blue Civic Hatch with the H22A4) and Matt (White 4-Door Integra GS-R). Any ways - I drive a black prelude, 98. Here's a link to see my setup.

Well anywho, I would love to join your team cause I've been getting a lot of work done lately and Pete has been helping me out get some stuff installed and my valves adjusted :-) Well listen, if you get a chance, reply back.

~Alex

if you drive hard, valves usually need to be adjsuted every 15k.
