Is the Honda Dealership okay?

Okay, my car started running like crap. The check engine light was on so I took it to autozone but it didn't run a code, so i took it to the local Honda dealership, and they did a diagnostic. They did a test on the oil pump and it turns out that it is not making any pressure. So I asked how much it would be to replace the pump, and they said that an estimated repair price, with labor included, is $1,100. Because they said they also need to replace the timing belt, balance belt, water pump and all the bottom end gaskets. I haven't decided if i want to just tell them to do that, or not.

What do you think?

The 100K mile "tune-up" is costly and should be done by somewhat experienced with Hondas. If you can find a local shop you are confident in get a quote from them.

Also ask for a labor quote only, as the parts can be sourced from online dealers for a fairly low cost.

Yeah, you got the whole 90k mile tune up to do apparently. Most dealers I've learned charge between 850-1200 to do that alone. However, I've heard of members on this site getting their mechanichs to do it for 500-750(usually more towards 700, that 500 dollar one was really rare). As for the oil pump, I know nothing about replacing that, I think you'd have to take the tranny off right?? Try doing some searching around the forums(use the search feature;it doean't work worth rap, but it could help) and also do some shpping around town(if you have to, call) and get a few different prices, and hour on the phone may save you 2-3 hundred dollars(or 115% on your car insurance ). Good luck man.

I guess i'm going to call the dealership and find out every part that they are going to replace, and then buy it myself, and just have them do the tune-up or whatever with the parts I buy... Will they fix my car with parts that they didn't purchase? I would like to have it so that if it happens again, I can say, "it's your fault" to the dealer and have it fixed again for free. ...

Labor is warrantied despite where the parts come from. If the parts you buy have warranties you will have to get replacements from Honda if they are OEM. Sometimes part warranties will have to include labor charges you had to incur. Just read all the fine print.

So i'm guessing it would be easier to just let them fix it... Maybe i'll just buy the pump to save them the trouble, "me the money", but let them do everything else... Also, would this be a good time to put in those magnetic oilpan plugs?
