high output alternator?

so I've noticed that my car doesn't charge my batt. too well.
now this is why, my batt. is relocated to the trunk (I should have gone bigger then 2ga), I have an under drive pully, I have a good power hungry sound system, and I drive mostly at night so the HID's are on.

I think Ill remove the underdrive pully (if I can find my stock one) but I was also thinking I'd like to go for a higher output alternator.

does anyone know where I could find one? or what the stock Amperage is?

the hids should only be about 35 watts compared to the stock ones which i think might be 55 watts,i'm trying to find a higher output alternator also to run my system, and i think the stock alternator is only 90 amps

Helm's specifies the stock alternator @ 100A.

Getting rid of the underdrive pulley may fix the issue. I put one on my car and my battery died a few months later. When I examined more closely, I found that my system voltage was dropping to ~12.0V, sometimes lower, when I was idling. In fact, if I was idling, the voltage would RISE when I turned the car off (normal battery voltage was ~12.7V). Got rid of the underdrive pulley and everything was great again. I know not everyone has those kinds of problems but I sure did. I had AEM, BTW.

I doubt you need anything bigger than 2ga wire for charging purposes -- battery charging current is generally not very high, relatively speaking...

^^^agree...about the underdrive pulley. I had a small battery in the trunk with 2/0 AWG wire (at least 1/2" thick) and had low voltage issues at idle, below 12v. Went back to the stock pulley and all is good. My voltage at idle is around 13v now.

I still have issues though. I know my battery is toast and needs to be replaced. But I'm thinking that my alternator may also be toasted...running that underdrive pulley for over 2 years had to put some extra stress on the system.

It takes more power from the engine to turn a higher output alternator.

Twiggz...did you get an alt. yet? I need recommendations on where to buy, but I don't need a HO one, stock 100A will work for me. I don't want to go thru 3 or 4 rebuilts until I get a good one...too much effort involved with the JRSC belts...I need to buy ONE alternator and be done with it.

What about unorthodox racing pulley wheels? If ur really looking for some sort of pulley mod, u could get the same size but much lighter wheel. I also have the AEM underdrive kit and i severely regret it. When i first got my car i was looking 4 any and every "cool" mod i could afford. Ugh.....
