Well, I have some unusually high compression numbers across the board and I would just like to get some input on it.
I bought the cheapest compression tester at Autozone ($20). Then I went home and the car sat for about an hour. I went to test the far right cylinder and to my surprise, it went up to 265. I decided to take the rest of the plugs out of the other cylinders to see if that made a difference, but I still got 265. Now, this tester has some little extension on it but I just threaded the end of the hose straight into the cylinder and didn't use the little extension. I doubt that would make a difference but I'm not sure. In any case, I got 265-265-270-265. I just bought this tester and brought it home but I'm wondering if I may have just gotten a defective tester. I know these are way too high. My H22 has 48,000 miles on it and is a 2001. I also only have a Type S intake and Greddy exhause. No other mods. Any help would be appreciated.

I suspect you have a crappy tester. The good thing is that your readings are pretty much the same across the board so I think you are fine. I guess if you had a huge amount of carbon buildup, you could get higher than normal pressure. I wouldn't worry about anything.

You dont use the extension on our cars, and it wouldnt cause higher numbers anyway. You are supposed to test it with a warm engine but if it only sat an hour and it isnt freezing outside that would be fine. You might have a lot of carbon build up, that will cause higher than normal #s.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm running a bottle of Regane through it right now and am going to try again here soon. I also suspect it is probably my tester so I may take it back and just spend a few extra bucks to get a quality one if I get similar results again.
