HID conversion kit help!

Hi was wondering of buying an HID conversion kit, BUT what exactly does it require assembly-wise? Like do you have to rewire your whole headlight system or what? At the moment the 2001 prelude has stock yellow/normal type of headlights and what the goal is to get those white type of lights. Can I simply change the bulb to a white light bulb?

you just hook them to the battery and put the bulbs in. but at the post above said, hid's without a projector blind people. get a real retro done.

most are plug and play systems so not really any aditional wiring just hooking up the new hids and ballasts that are provided with them. people on here are really harsh with using hids in stock housings i love mine and ive never been flashed at for them. i have ddm tuning 55w 5000k in a 89 mitsubishi mighty max ddm tuning 55w 6000k in a 95 toyota tacoma and 35w 8000k ddm tuning in my 98 lude had 35w 6000k ddm tuning in my 94 lude as well. will be getting 35w 3000k for my fogs here soon. if you want my opinon id check out ddm tuning kits there around $40-50 and of good quality ive had some of my kits from them for over a year. also the hi and low beam headlights in the prelude are an h1. hope this helps good luck

I had a set for awhile ripped that crap out and went with a better OEM buld. Using the hid in the stock housing creates hot spots in your vision....

Thanks for your help guys! But what's the difference between HID and retro lights? Also seeing that you guys are quite harsh about HID how about those halo lights or are they just for show?

LOL ii usually look away when a car with HID lights is coming in the opposite direction, by the way is there a law where it prohibits such lights due to the blinding of drivers?

don't get halo. hid is just the blubs, a retro uses stock projectors from another car to focus and project the light to the road instead of other drivers eyes.

law depends on the state i think. i know you can't pass inspection in nj with hid's. you'd be more likely to be pulled over if you're blinding a police officer with hids than if you have projectors that don't blind them.

here is a thread of pictures of retro fits - probably somewhere you can see glare of no projector vs. having a projector and getting the light to the road and not other drivers eyes.

and there is a group buy going on right now - buy projectors

Pretty sure it's illegal is modify your lights just about anywhere. The thing is, if you do it right, like with retrofits, a cop will probably never notice they are not OEM and pull you over. If your car has to pass inspections where you live (mine doesn't) then you should probably just leave them stock.

Also, most Ebay lights (like halo's) are for "offroad use only." That means they are not DOT approved, which technically makes them illegal to use on the street. Again, as long as they look stockish, a cop probably won't notice the difference though.

LOL yeh mostly see HID's on bmw's and audi's, if we're a ninja think we shouldn't even have headlights just night vision goggles!

indylude18 thanks for the insight! Guess better check on the street regulation before getting headlights at random.

i think a ballast would really help you set this up...don't make a move if you don't know how to do this. you'll just mess up your ride.

all hids take ballasts, they would come in the kit. order the morimoto retros from jlude and it comes with everything, and he'll walk you though it. or prelude1897 on this board does them also. and i'm sure after he does your retro he can walk you thru install. its pretty simple.
