i was just checking on some of this stuff today, well kinda. yes i've heard of the color black chrome, but don't know if it's actually chrome w/black pigment/dye added or something. i had a mountain bike that was "black chrome" and it was cool, yunno it was like a black transparent color. that's pretty much the effect i'm looking for too. haven't talked to a chrome plater, but i'm sure you could find all kinds of stuff on the web. what i did check on was anodizing (in case you read my earlier post). with anodizing, you can add pigment to adjust the effect. the dude recommended hard anodizing, which is a little different process, but he says i should be able to get the color i'm looking for (not like completely oxidized black, but kinda charcoal color), and you can see the shine of the aluminum through the anodizing, giving a little bit different effect than painted/powdercoated surface. oh yeah, and hard anodizing has the same kinds of strength properties as chrome plating.... "HARD AS HELL!!!!!"

As far as I know black chrome is just that.....reflective, darkened chrome. Gunmetal is, just like it says, like the dark metal found on guns and some rifles. I don't think that they are the same.....they have indicitively different textures and hues.

no black chrome does not = gunmetal. momo makes rims in a tinted chrome, i forget what they call it. i believe that have rights to it also, even though there are many "lookalikes.''

The only people that could tell the difference is the owner... so basically, same thing.

black chrom is in between gunmetal (more shinier/ reflective) and chrome. There is a difference.

they glow darker than chrome.

Black pearl is an awesome paint color for rims tho. They have black matallic paint on them.

Black chrome is reflective(or more accurately refractive).
Gun metal doesn't tend to be.
Neither of them can be simply described as a color. They incorperate texture and tint into the mix among other things. Black chrome wouldn't be the same if it wasn't shiny, but shiny isn't a color....am I making sense?
