Help Misfiring

Modifications air intake, crane cam ignition, tanabe exhaust and V-AFC controller. The car is misfiring at higher RPM's and a constant ignition knock at idle. The car ran good for a few weeks after the latest modification (V-AFC). The misfiring started at the higher rpms at first and gradually got worse to the point that it is now. The engine sounds like it's starving for fuel, running lean. Disconnected catlytic converter, seems to run better but still misfires and has engine ignition knock. HELP?

Checked injectors yet? Make sure they aren't clogged. Get as good a look at your fuel system as you can, fuel lines, rails everything you can see. Also have you noticed any smells after running your car hard?

I'll check out the injectors along with the rest of the fuel system, once the fuel guage arrives. I haven't noticed any odors from the engine. The problem has progressed from the almost unnoticeabe misfiring to bogging down so much that it shut off along the highway.

Check that the installaion of the vtec controller is ok , if you can remove it and check if the problem persists , you can check the sparks too or the oil level. i've had this kind of problems before in my '01 lude and have been problems with my field vtec controller, sparks and oil .. in diferent ocassions

my car makes popping sounds when i spray nitrous. it does this when i shift from first to second gear. it's an automatic, by the way. i checked my plugs and they look fine. i have an msd digital 6 and i have the retard set at 2 degrees when the nitrous is activated. i think it's the muffler causing this. i have a greddy evo. but this only happens with nos. i'm going to try a colder plug and see if this cures it.

If this is a 5th gen, Id check the ignitor. (This shouldnt cause the lean condition, but it would definitely cause the misfire) My friends Prelude died on the freeway, and I swapped distributors with him. It fired right up. He put a new ignitor in his distributor and it ran fine. A few weeks later, his car developed a horrible misfire, and swapping distributors again cleared the problem, and after he looked over his distributor again, he figured out that even though the wire connectors on the ignitor seemed secure, they were just loose enough to cause a really bad misfire as soon as the VTEC swichover occured. He closed the connectors down a bit with needle nose pliers, and it hasnt missed since.
