Too bad. You asked, I answered. Nitrous is safer than most people think. My coworker's son has a Focus SVT with Nitrous that runs 12.1. It's not built. Just Nos and a tune with the proper sparkplugs and some bolt-ons.
Oh, and

Is it a slap stick? If so a 5 speed swap would be the first place to look. Other than that the search function always works good as well....

Try a good header. SMSP.

Then try some better cams. Then get a tunable ecu. Then have it tunes.

You should notice some nice gains.

^well........

A good header like Hytech, Mugen, SMSP, RMF are between $1k and $1.2k new usually. Used can be as low as $5-600 and more.

Hytech replicas are around $4-500 I think, don't hold me on that. There is a group buy for that.
----------------------------------
Cams, I don't really know. I have never really shopped around. I'm assuming between $3-500.

A tunable ECU would be priced different for ever different one obviously, and there are a few out there. Hondata s300's are between $5-700. A good professional tune(which is the only way to reach the tunes full potential) is accumulative from hours or time on a dyno, but so far, for most people it ends up costing over $400. But it will always be different and depend on the application.

Go into the N/A section and do A LOT of reading up. They have been discussing this stuff for 10 years in there, and from what I've heard/read, they know some good info. Although it's not quite as active in that forum, it's very helpful. You just have to do a bit of your own digging.

1k won't get you too far with good mods on the Prelude. A decent header can cost that and more...Personally If you looking to go fast my advise is get rid of the Prelude and buy a LS1 TransAm/Camaro or the like...The Prelude is a great car but if you're planning on trying to build it to take on those kinds of cars be prepared to break the bank...

Now if you just want to make it a bit faster I'd say you could add some things that may help for 1k, but don't expect to feel them much on the butt dyno...

DC sports Header
Brian Crower Cams
Xenocron Chipped ECU
Dyno Tune

I'd think you get that done for under a grand or a little over, especially if you can find the parts used...good luck man!

Oh and what pIERCE said...

Research is your friend when it comes to this stuff: "measure twice, cut once" as they say

The DC sports header will not give you the gains the good headers will also thought I'd mention that...

AND not everyone can tune Xenocron chipped ECU's so you'll have to research that for your area...but they are WAY cheaper than s300's

Actually there was a header comparison done on HT and it made better power than people expect... Lemme find it.....

Honda-Tech - View Single Post - H22 Header Comparison *teaser*

So, it's not alot, but 4 hp and 2 lb\ft over what the jdm stock header makes, which I'm assuming is probably 1 or 2 more than the usdm one. So possibly like a 6 hp gain. That's not bad. Not worth $400, but if you can pick up a DC for $ 20 or 40 bucks like I did, then it is totally worth it. Now if I could just find time to install it.....

(And I say $20 or 40 because I can't remember what I paid for it, but it wasn't more than $40. Awesome friends FTW.)

spend the 1k on a used motorcycle. speed problem solved and no prelude to trouble shoot because judging from your initial question, you will inevitably encounter too many problems.
