I got this from an old post pm PO long time ago, I just found it on my desktop here you go:

"Swap auto tranny for 5 speed
Swap auto ECU for 5 speed ECU
Install clutch master cylinder and associated plumbing
Install clutch pedal
Remove/alter any wiring associated with auto tranny
Install new shifter and cable
Install 5 speed gauge cluster

Another thing to look into are the engine mounts and drive shafts. They could be a difference between the auto and manual trannys. "

Hey man I had a SS also, I just traded it in for a 5spd from a honda dealer. Lost about 2.4k USD...saved me the hassle.

you can use your auto ecu for now if need be. you'll just get poopy idle, a CEL, and a blinking d4 light. But use a 5spd ecu by all means if you can find one. If you have any future questions, AIM me at MolotovSkullys or e-mail me at MolotovSkullys@AOL.com

I got a 5 speed ecu sitting in my room you can buy. Does the manual tranny bolt right up to the auto block or do you need to modify the block?

yes, it will bolt directly onto the block and yes a P72 will be fine.

So the 5speed tranny will bolt to any H22a block except for the type sh block, correct? Also, what other tranny can we use? Which has the longest gears?

the SH block is different, so you are correct. From what I hear, the Accord tranny has longer gears and is stronger, but...that may be hearsay.

its much more work than you think. i am having my SS swapped over to 5spd as we speak

PS: dont forget your transmission mount.

also.. auto ECU will work.. crazy idle.. people think your car is *ucked* up when you stop at a light. if you plan on switching ecu.. might as well do a obd2->1 conversion.

yeah...running an auto ecu sucks ass, but it werx. I'm using an H23 prelude SI tranny and it definately has longer gearing than any other h22 5speeds ive driven. I fall out of vtec from the 3rd to 4th shift, but it climbs back up quick enough to not care.

on a side note, how's your car coming along, Mike N.?
did you ever get that startup wiring straighened out?

the h23 tranny is definately cheaper and easier to find than the H22 tranny.....BUT, with the good comes the bad....you'll have to fabricate a bracket to hold the H23 transmission mount. I picked up my transmission at my friend's salvage yard. check around your local yards...there's bound to be one laying around in storage.

so if I found say the tranny for like what say $500 then what is this fabricate bracket thing? Will it cost a lot of money? Cause at the most I wanna spend 2k for everything.

damnit...i need to do a writeup on the swap sometime soon before i forget everything.

as for the mount bracket....you're going to have to go to a salvage yard and find a 4th gen frame and chop off the transmission mount bracket off of the frame. it's spot-welded to the frame so you're going to have to drill out the spot welds and be careful not to put too many holes in the bracket because it will make the bracket weak. On 5th gens, Honda used a different mount, hence the fabrication necessary to accomodate the 4th gen transmission. chop off your 5th gen bracket and MIG weld the 4th gen bracket onto your frame and MAKE SURE IT"S ALIGNED!

yeah, the connector for the gear position selector sensor was not down there so I found the two wires that I needed up by the passenger side shock tower and jumped them. Worked like a charm. (thanks for the pin numbers)

okay so in other words the tranny itself is cheap but its gonna be a ***** to get it aligned. What about the accord 5-speed tranny? if none of this works then I will just go and get fifth gren tranny cause when it comes to like frames and crap like i am not someone who knows his ****.

it's not THAT hard to get the engine aligned....the transmission will bolt up perfect, but leveling the engine will be kinda tricky...well..not really. just a little jack play. yeah....if you have the money, go find a 5th gen transmission and don't worry with the H23
