Otherwise what advice have you veterans got about buying, thinking about the 2-litre cos am only 21 years old.what models are best???like the gold colour too, but seem tobe like rockinghorse poo overhere.
thanks
Just want some advice. I live in the uk and does anyone else who chats here live overhere to?? Anyway love these cars now, what models do they do, want a two litre cos 2.2 will cost too much to insure. What goes wrong with them, what should i look for? Also are there any magazines for 'luders' and what cars will a two litre, as stock, keep up with
thanks
ok i'll try ... for 97-01 Prelude are all 2.2 liter so if you buy one, you said your insurance maybe High but they all come equipped with that liter. However, the models available here in the US are 3 different trims, Base (Sportshift-Automatic), Base(Manual), and SH(Manual) ... if i were you i would go with either base, but if your really into racing or plan to modify your car with Forced induction get the manual. Because a Automatic and Turbo really dont run well. Maybe after a rebuild engine ... anyways hope this helps ... i tried
How much have you been quoted for insurance on a 2.2 VTEC Prelude? I am 23 years old and own a 5th generation 1997 2.2 VTEC, it costs me £154 per month to insure (Norwich Union). That is with 2 years no claims, a Clifford alarm and Tracker device. Trust me, if you can afford it, go for a VTEC. Otherwise, you will always be wondering - What If? The 2.0 and 2.2 may look the same from the outside, but the VTEC is a BEAST! Also, it is nice to know that not many cars on the road can touch you performance wise. For example, those boy racers in Golf GTIs and XR3Is have not got a chance!
Mine cost me £10,000. It took me quite a few months to find this car which I liked. As you probably know, there are not a lot of 5th generation Preludes around and manual transmission ones are VERY difficult to find! Do not get an automatic 'cos there not as quick and manuals...........
..is he that hard to understand? I get most of it I think.

"Hello everyone. I just joined PO.com this very second and am trying to sell my other car (a mk3 golf) and buy myself a Prelude. I live in the United Kingdom so if anyone else is from here then let me know. Other than that, what advice do you veterans have about getting a 'lude? I'm thinking of buying the 2-litre because I am only 21 years old. Which models are the best? I like the gold colour too but it seems to be like sh*t over here."
"I just want some advice. I live in the United Kingdom so does anyone else who lives here go online to chat? Anyways, I love these Preludes now. What models are there? I want a 2litre because a 2.2L will cost me too much to insure. What (if any) can go wrong with these engines and what should I look for? Also, are there any magazines out there for "'luders" and what other cars will a 2L Prelude keep up to if kept totally stock? Thanks"

Problems wise, there isn't much to look out for. I have had my car since July last year, and the ONLY thing which has gone wrong with it was that both headlight dipped beam bulbs blew at the same time. Oh, and an old fluffing kunt in a Mondeo drove into the side of me before Christmas.
We only get two 5th gen Preludes here in the UK. Standard 2.0 and 2.2 VTEC. Both come with either manual or Sequential Sport Shift. We don't get the SH here. From 1998 there was a special edition called "Motegi". Difference is that it has lowered sports suspension, 17" alloys (instead of 16"), and the full OEM body kit.
I have heard of people on this web site mentioning gear box problems? I have had no problem with my manual box. The main thing to look out for is to make sure that car has been regularly serviced. If it has, that indicates that it's owner has cared for it. Also, listen to the engine. If it sounds loud and clattering, don't buy it, 'cos Preludes do not sound like that.
thanks guys for all those replies, especially prelude uk. Am on mums insurance so hopefully it will be cheaper, only really got about seven grand to buy one, but as you said i have gotta try to get a 2.2 my current car is a 1.8i golf, one below a gti and the insurance along with a brand new fiesta (mum's) totals 600 quid. My golf is insurance group 8 or 9. Now what you reckon a 2.2 (group 17) will be. Does a thatcham alarm/tracker bring it down much? What cars can the vtec do? What colours you all got out there? That gold colour is what i want, tint the windows, and i am a street-racer!!! just wish i could sell my golf soon, cant buy a prelude till then.
