The only thing I dislike about my prelude is the headlights, the just look goofy to me... I want to do a headlight conversion... I saw the Type R converstion on that yellow lude in Import Tuner, but I am betting that would cost a ton since its Jap spec type R lights....
My question is are there any other head lights that I can get cheaper and more easily that look like the jap spec type R head lights....
What am I looking at as far as cost for the lights, and the body/paint work for the convertsion?
Oh screw all you guys. The prelude has an awesome look with the headlights. Why the hell did you buy a prelude if you dislike the headlights? That's like buying a Mercedes and saying that you hate the emblems or something. The preludes style and appeal comes from its unique body design and the headlights are a very big part of that.

Why do people buy the Subaru WRX? A few of those people just by it for the performance aspect, for we all know that's one helluva ugly car.

There are a 100 reasons I got a lude... one of them WAS NOT the head lights, but the 100 reasons that I had out weighed the little irk I had with the lights...
If that is your only argument, am I wrong for putting rims on my car? Why did I buy the car if I didn't like the wheels? How about the altezzas... or lets see... shift knobs.. or CAI... why buy the car if you don't like the intake.... and I won't even mention body kits.... next time you have something to say.. say it out loud and be sure it doesn't sound as stupid as that post did... moron.
i actually like the headlights a lot. i say dont do a conversion, unless you really wanna, but that'll make you loose a good few grand. Think of other things to use yr money for.
I really think it has to do with Honda's designers. Their designs always seem to have to grow on someone in order for them to like it (for the most part). When the prelude first came out, I thought the headlights were fugs and could never picture me buying a lude. Same goes for the last gen civic and the latest one. But the more I looked at it, the more it grew on me and learned to love its uniqueness.
But to each his own I guess, and in the end, it always boils down to the same bottom line...it's YOUR car, do whatever the hell you want
I like it and that's y I bought it. Once I saw this car in the 1996 Auto Car show in San Francisco Moscone Center, maaaan I waz sayin, "What a sweet lookin car over there." (It was a light purple silver Prelude rotating on a turntable). Took a picture of it . Dang I should post it up. It waz the beginning of the 5 gen tradition!
Funny how when the Preludes first came out everyone and their mother was going "THOSE HEADLIGHTS ARE UGLY!!!" then people started to go...damn that's a nice car....then next thing you know..other maufactures start having similar style headlghts (GS300/400, Toyota Celica....) I admit..at first I hate the headlights...but then...it just started to look good...and better...and now...I wouldn't trade it for anything....it makes the Prelude stand out......haha and besides....when you do a conversion....good luck...you better have some good bodyshop that knows how to do metal and really good bodywork...or else..they are just going to end up using bondo and fiberglass and when you hit a dip....crack...then you totally lose the resale value of the car..(not saying you are going to sell the car)....then you'll have problems with the lighting patterns, then you'll be at the point of no return.....so later on....if you break fender or something....that's another semi-conversion, I can go on....hahaha but I think you guys know what I'm getting at...I've been around many cars that have gone the headlight / taillight route...I myself once had 2 tone paint job, custom kit, fender flares, and 19 inch rims....damn that was a pain!!!....can't drive fast afraid you'll break something.....well all that is going off on a tangent...back to my point..it's a no no...
type s i agree with you. when i first bought my lude . i hated the lights almost sold it. i bought it becuase i wanted the newest fastest honda at that time...
the head lights are the ludes trade mark
now the guy who owns the lude is a good budy of mine.
the car is actually for sale..$30k he lives in so cali.
now a days you can buy a copy of a copy for way cheap. call vis racing in so cali they can get you a copy of the real jdm for cheap, cheaper than you think..

Agreed =) It took me about a year to start loving the prelude's entire look. Hehe I don't know about you guys, but at the dealership that day, nothing looking more beautiful than my brand new 5th gen lude with 9 miles on it and the rest of the miles all waiting for me to drive =)
its funny how when the first 5th gen prelude came out, my friend said he loved the headlights, but when i first saw it, damn it was fugly...haha and i cant believe i own the car that i use to dislike...now i think the headlights look hella tiight!!!!
IMO, the lude looks really clean with just a few modifications...ex. springs, OEM or WIngs west kit.....i dunno about you guys but when i see a prelude drive by on the other side of the road...i would turn my head...be like damnnn...that car looks hella nice when its in motion.....
