Has your pedal broken after a 5spd swap? LOOK HERE

Could someone crawl under their dash on the driver's side and take a picture of the upper portion of their clutch pedal? I am trying to see at what height the pedal needs to be reinforced. I'm not sure how much the bracket would come into the cabin had it been on my car.

Or does anyone know the height of the bracket? I don't really want to guess at this and want to get the correct height if possible.

In case you are curious, yes my pedal is starting to bend from nothing supporting it. Right now my car is a bit un-drivable, so hopefully I can't get it moving after finals tomorrow after a trip to Lowe's / Home Depot.

Update
I decided to take the pedal off so I could see if I need a new one to go with the bracket. I also wanted to be able to see if it would be possible to install the bracket with the dash on.

It broke in the usual 5spd swap position. On another thread I have seen the bracket screwed on by two other people. This is what I will most likely do since a mobile welder may be expensive.

Update

I just got back from the junkyard in Shreveport. I got a clutch pedal bracket and a new clutch pedal!

The thing was a pain to rip off the donor car, as the spot welds had to be drilled out. The problem is your working in a tight place upside down. After lot's of frustration it came out though.

I'll try to post some pics of; the bracket, where/how it's mounted, and where a pedal stopper needs to be.

Update

Here is the bracket I pulled from the SH.

This is what I decided to mount it with. I had tried to use lag screws with a couple washers, but it didn't work very well. So tomorrow I'll use these.

The pedal stopper is a bracket that is against the firewall and you can see the outline of it on the carpet/interior (picture tomorrow). The bracket uses a rubber stopper on the end and sits the same length as the pedal bracket to the firewall (which actually sits about 1/2 - 3/4 of an inch from the firewall its self, as it has a large spacer for master bolt). I didn't have time to pull the bracket off the junkyard car, but here is my idea of a easy alternative...

Yes those are door stoppers with double sided tape . The brown one will sit on the firewall while the white one attaches to that and will cushion the pedal arm.

I'll post some pictures of all the final stuff if I can get to it tomorrow.

It looks like a black rubber circle on top of a gray bracket. I'm going to take a picture of it's location, but I don't have a 5spd around to take a picture of.

Here is where the stopper goes:

It's to the lower right of the master cylinder. There is a "plug" rubber that blocks it. You simply pull that out and you'll see the firewall.

Here is what I did to make my own pedal stopper:

I mounted the upper bracket today

Got the pedal on, drove it for a short period, and I'm a happy camper. I just have the SRS light on though .

Mine bent like whoa. Instead of going your route, I had a shop weld the isht out of a new pedal bracket at the base. I'll snap some pics later on.

Sorry to bring the thread back from the dead, but this is good info for our aging 'ludes. I might have to try the "doorstop" fix here...my stopper is practically disintigrated. Thanks for the inspiration Solid.

**** I think mine broke last night. It still works but barely. Now I gotta think what I'm gonna need. I'm gonna have to see if I can find a prelude in an autowreckers around here. Now the clutch pedal goes all the way to the floor because its bent. And it just barely disengages.

That brackets looks tough to install up there. What did yours look like once the clutch pedal was installed to it?

Thx man.

You will need a cordless drill, bits, pry bar, pliers, and patience.

After it was installed it looked like a clutch pedal

Just to ease my nerves... this issue is only with auto to manual swaps right? Not out of the factory 5spds?
