Handbrake failing

I parked my car in my driveway today and I did not yank my hand brake all the way up as I usually do, but it was still halfway~or more up....and my car started rolling backwards.

Two of my friends 00 VR6 and Probe GT dont need to be yanked up all the way for them to stay in place.

My car is still under warranty, should I just get it checked out or is this normal?

btw...the driveway isnt even that steep.

There was a post about this about a month ago. Same thing happened to my roommate. Rolled down a hill and hit a QX4. Best thing I can tell you is leave the car in gear. The Prelude e-brake isn't exactly "dependable" for some reason.

All the parking brake does is apply the rear brakes. The parking brake needs regular adjusting, for as the rear brakes wear the parking brake becomes less effective. Either your parking brake is in need of adjustment or your rear brake pads are near their time to be replaced.

I had the same problem with my old car. Just take it to the dealer and they can adjust the parking brake for you.

I have never had trouble with my parking brake. It is adjusted every 7.5K miles, per the Helm.

Are you still using the stock pads? I use Carbotech Super Street F pads, and if the parking brake isnt pulled up completely, it will slowly creep if its on an incline. Im not real sure if adjusting the parking brake wil help, because its still in spec according to the Helms. I think its just because of the reduced friction of the SS F pads when cold.

Do yourself a favor and put it in gear in addition to pulling the e-brake. I didn't do that and my car rolled into a damned 2002 volvo. I don't think it's the brake, rear brake pads shouldn't wear down that quickly. Just pull it up higher. Different cars are different. You can't expect what works for one car to work for another.

You can always just tighten the e-brake. Just remove the center consol and you'll see it. Thats what I did, I can't leave my car in gear cuz if I accidentally remote start it, it'll just roll away till it hits something.

Bumping a 7 year old thread with your second post. How appropriate.
