H23A blue top for 700 - Honda Prelude Forum

I have a line on a blue top with 39K on it and the ecu already tuned for it. only problem is he striped a head bolt. he got it quoted for repairs at 200 bucks. i talked to my friend who is a certified mechanic and he said it's risky and the block could end up severely damaged. can i use my h22a4 block? is it worth it even at 700 if i don't use the block? this is my first build, very green and could use some help.

The block is the same. However, it's not worth the risk, considering you can buy a h23a for ~1k from Hmotors.

The seller is a friend of mine from work, i wasn't working on the car with him but i was there when it got messed up. I'm thinking about offering 500 and using my own block which just got resleeved.

Ok fact or fiction. . . the guy selling the engine says the Cam's from the 23A vtec are the same as the Type S cams. . . i find this hard to believe. also if i put the h23 head on my h22 block what would be the out come? as I have been reading most people do the opposite and have the 22 head on the 23 block? If i don't take the whole motor are there any parts that i should definitely grab off of what he has?

That's wrong. The H23a vtec has very mild cams.

The H23a vtec block and head are more or less the same as the H22, the main difference is the crankshaft and rods.

If you put the H23 head on your H22 block it wouldn't accomplish anything really. Aside from the cams, the head is almost identical to an H22 head.

so I've read also that the h23a produces better numbers with bolt ons. is that due to the head or the block?

Again, the head and the block are virtually the same between an H22 and an H23a vtec.

The reason the H23a responds better to bolt ons is because it has a longer stroke, and therefore has more torque at lower rpms to begin with.
