Got my Prelude Type SH lowered...many problems....WTF
I got my Prelude lowered today with Eibach prokits and KYB AGX adjustable shocks.
I'm very upset with the outcome of this. Everyone at po.com was telling me that as long as I use aftermarket springs any shock will work...so i listen to them...
My mechanic (Steve at Vertex) tells me that the front shocks are different from the stock ones. I told him that it would be no problem and to go ahead and install them.
When I go to pick up my car, there is 1.5" finger gap in the rear and the front right (passenger side) has a 3.5" finger gap and the front left has a 3" finger gap. The gaps in the front are larger than stock!
Also the rear is rubbing...i have 215-40-17 tires.
The technician reassumed me that the install was done properly and he doesn't know why the car is uneven. He said that it could be the products that I bought.
Here is what I got installed exactly with part numbers:
743031 Front Left KYB AGX ADJ Shock
741030 Front Right KYB AGX ADJ Shock
741032 Rear KYB AGX ADJ Shock
4035.140 Eibach Pro-Kits
What the hell is wrong? What should I do? Anyone else with a Type SH and KYBs experience this?
Sorry I know not about KYB and the SH. However, I do know that Koni for one does not support the use of their shocks with several spring setups on the SH. If you had used Ground Control or Skunk2 sleeves and Koni shocks you would not have this problem. Part of the problem with the SH is that it is corner weighted differently than the Base by Honda. The supension parts are not interchangeable according to the parts book. The shocks and springs are not even the same.
My advice is to contact Eibach and KYB directly for their input. It sounds like the perch position for the front shocks is not correct. Or is it possible that the wrong pair of springs are up front? Generally the front springs are shorter than the rears. Oh-the rear of an SH is identical to that of a BASE.
Hope this helps point you the right way.

his installation is most likely wrong man ... check over the part number yourself to make sure its fine ... same thing happended to my friend and it was a instalation problem ... or try calling shock company to make sure they send you the right stuff
the part numbers are correct for the shocks and i agree with the others that it might be an installation problem. i have kyb agxs mated with h&r sports on my SH and no problems at all.
i actually decided against eibach prokits because if you do a search on them, some other members were complaining about the drop being uneven not just between the front and rear but also between left and right!
edit: by the way, i noticed that you're in northern virginia. i got my shocks and springs installed at inline-pro. they did a great job there so might wanna take you're car there. good luck

if i call tirerack (where i got the shock from) and tell them that my car is higher in the front than in the rear, they will tell me that KYB doesnt even make a shock for the SH model and that I got base shocks and blame me.
How much would it cost to get my suspension checked out to make sure that everything was installed correctly?
Electronbluesh: what part numbers did you have for your setup, I just want to match them up and see if they are the same.
It's gotta be install. First I've heard of this. Even KYB AGX advertises Eibach with there shocks. I put in 3 weeks ago KYB AGX with H&R sport and have no complaints.

yeah like the others said, the installation must be wrong. I have H&R sports and Neuspeed Koni Yellows setup and I've been very happy. What I don't get is the H&R springs suppose to be even all the wrong around but for some reason the rear of my car is lower than the front.
so u got the base models set-up for ur SH?that there does not sound right to start out with.
do u think it will lower some more later and settle to a better stance?
well the best thing to do if it does not settle is to gamble on a H&R springs and get it installed and see if it works.
if it does not- sell everything at ebay and get urself a set up for the SH.
When I was asking the PO.com members they advised me to get base model shocks, cuz no manufacturer makes shocks for the SH model. They told me that once I upgrade my springs I can use whatever shocks I want.
What is my next logical step? My car looks fcuked up and I am pissed as hell.
here's what I think the next logical step should be....
1) Get my suspension checked out at another shop and make sure everything is installed correctly.
(How much would this cost?)
2) Get the KYB AGX's removed from my car and return them. Put the stock shocks back on with Eibach pro kits. (Would there be a problem with my car since its an SH if I have it lowered on stock shocks?)
i had ground controls but i traded them to another po.com member for eibach prokits + 100.
I just want to confirm that would there be a problem if I am on stock shocks with eibach prokits on a Type SH?
I'm going to get it checked out by CDE...where I should have gotten them installed...and make sure everything was installed correctly. If it was, then I am just going to remove my shocks and return them.
What are my options for shocks for the Type SH w/Eibach Pro Kits?
You made right choice by checking it out with another shop. Don't get me wrong, but I have never heard anything good about vertex. I even called vertex once to ask some questions, and whoever answered it didn't seem to know anything. I think it is the problem with installation. Your car is too messed up. I'm guessing he put wrong springs or didnt' set the perch right.
