good shop around north chicago for transmission rebuild?

I have a 98 prelude base and need a new transmission. I have no 2nd gear and I'm getting tired of it.

Does anyone know a good place I can take it to get the transmission rebuilt? I live in Gurnee, IL but don't mind driving far for a good shop. Also, how much might it cost? TIA.

call synchrotech and send them your trans. They will do a much better job of it than almost anyone else ont eh market. Depending what you want doe to it it can cost a fair bit.

Buying a used one will be substantially cheaper than rebuilding the one you have.

Synchro tech sounds promising I checked out their website and you're right about the pricing. If I bought a rebuilt trans from them the total repair would probably be around $2000. That includes a core charge for me sending my trans to them. I still have to find a shop to do the work though.

Buying a used one would be nice if I could test drive the car before the trans is dropped out. I have no possible way of knowing what I'm getting without the test drive. Should I just trust someone on the forums selling a trans that they claim is in good condition? No thanks. Ebay has some transmissions for around $600 and the user, jdm_planet, has good feed back on high priced engine swaps. Still need to find a shop though lol.

Thanks for your input guys I really appreciate it.
