I know a 4th gen tranny from an H22A(M2B4) has a quicker ratio in the 3rd,4th and 5th gears resulting in quicker acceleration but lower top end speed than our 5th gen trannies, plus they have LSD too.
My question is this: Since I already have a new clutch, flywheel and a Quaife LSD, instead of swapping trannies to help in the 1320, would it be possible to just install the 3rd and 4th gears(leaving me the stock 5th gear for a nice OD setup)into my tranny giving me the best of both worlds(quicker accelration while retaining the 5th gear as an overdrive unit)?? Can this be done?? Where can I purchase the 3rd and 4th JDM gear??
Damn, you are pouring some serious money into your Lude: spare engines, changing gear ratios... Why not put your 5th gear in the JDM tranny since everyone says it is superior with respect to grinding problems? I guess you could install your Quaife in it also. I wish I had a taller 5th so I don't have to buzz around 4200 RPMs on the highway. Gotta love radar detectors!

There is no point in just swapping 3rd and 4th. The gears that are most important for your 1/4 mi time would be 1st and 2nd gear anyway. The JDM 3rd and 4th alone would not really affect 1/4 mi times to any noticable degree.
It would be much easier (and probably cheaper) to just buy a complete JDM 4th gen tranny. You could tear it down and put your 5th gen 5th gear in it if you wanted.
Also, Prodrive USA sells a custom machined final drive for about $1300. That would certainly make your gearing better for acceleration, but would not help with 5th gear highway rpms.

For most turbo applications you want gearing to help keep the turbo in it's spooled rpm range. Usually, this means taller gearing. But a supercharger is always in boost no matter what the rpm; so the gearing is not as critical for maintaining power.
