gas gauge

ok so my gas gauge desides when it wants to work! yeah, um....... it always reads full but sometimes it will tell me how much gas i have. i cant trust it so i wait for the light to come on to fill up. so my question is, wtf is making it do that??? all the lights work, the gauge itself works, so is it my fuel pump?

I think this is the first fuel gauge malfunction I've ever heard of in a 5th gen, so I can't help very much.

What you need to do is get the downloadable helms manual and troubleshoot the sending unit and then the gauge. I have no clue on how to do either so that's why I suggest you get the manual.

So the light comes on at proper times, but the gauge doesn't work? I can't believe that the light and gauge are two separate mechanisms that both individually calculate fuel level....

yeah i think it's just the needle on the gas gauge that sticks cause i didn't think they were two separate devices ether.so i'm gonna have to tear it apart and see if i can fix it easy or if i'm gonna have to spend an arm and leg!

Please be very careful if you mess with the gauges. They have to specially calibrate--at the very least--the speedometer, if not all of the gauges and the needles!

So if you remove or mess with a needle, that may affect it's accuracy and ruin the gauge. If it's not your gas gauge(which to be quite honest, it probably isn't) and you mess with the gauge cluster, even when you fix the real issue, the gauge may not operate properly.

Check the sending unit and all of the wiring first before you start tearing apart your gauge cluster.
