I know this thread is old, sue me.
I want to ask crackizbad if he meant to refer to the H22a1 in his first post and then refer to the H22a4 in his second post. They're two different engines used in two different generations.
My recommendation is to purchase a stock H22a engine if you are going to go through all the trouble of purchasing the JDM parts that set it apart from the USDM engine because you're going to end up spending the same amount. You'd need to buy the whole cylinder head basically (because it's factory ported and polished) as well as the 62mm throttle body, 11:1 CR pistons and then, although it's not part of the engine, the exhaust that is also slightly larger in all the right areas to help that increased head flow. Then if you want to put all the power to the ground like the JDM boys do, you're going to have to buy a transmission that came with it that has the LSD in it. Once again, buying the whole JDM block would more than likely have this transmission on it.
So in conclusion, the price it would take for you to buy all of those items and then get them assembled into your H22a4 block would be the same price as just buying a rougly $3k to $4k engine. And I think with an "uncracked" engine, you'd be having a little more security knowing your block wasn't tampered with just yet.
