Front Brake Squeals

So the front brakes squeal but my brake pads are fine. My friend and I took off the caliper and resprayed the pads to make it not squeal but it still squeals just as much. Anyone have any suggestions on what it could be, thanks.

re-spray the pads? spray with what?

I don't know the name of the stuff, but it usually comes with brake pad sets, or it can be purchased separately and it absorbs some of the vibrations, helping to stop the squeeking. Just go to your local auto-parts store and they'll point you in the right direction.

Also, higher quality brake pads typically do not squeak as much as the lower priced/quality ones.

We sprayed it with the disk brake quiet and it didnt work. Ive had these brakes on for over two years and now it starts happening. Should I just change them out for some hawks?

did you have some aftermarket pads on your car? sometimes aftermarket pads do this b/c of the material. I would try 1st is place each brake pad on a flat, smooth surface. Now w/ a hard grit sand papaer (200 or less, the less the better), sand the brake pad material for a couple of minutes, make sure to go from one end to the other so you don't have much of uneven surface. Hopefully that should do the trick.

Hawks are going to be noisier than OEM. Try greasing the shims.

you should put some of that goo on the back of your pads, they sell it at the counter of the autoparts store for $0.99.

a higher performance brake pad is definately gonna squeal more than OEM. I can't stand driving my car to/from the track w/my track pads on b/c it's so damn loud.

Are brake pad shims fitted? Maybe you need some of them? Also, have you applied a layer of copper grease the the back of the pads?

When you took the pads off did you check the thickness? 2 years can be a long time for brake pads. You can eat through a set in a single track weekend.

Depending on which pads you have, they might have an indicator that will squeal when the pads are getting low.

I never understand why people have problems with pads squealing. I run Hawk HPS with no problems. The only time I had a problem was when the built in hawk shim separated from the backing plate.

The rotors could also need turning. After time they get a "glaze" on them that makes the brakes squeel. Just get them turned, get new pads, sand them down a touch as mentioned above and don't forget the shim grease and you should be good to go.
