Fresh Newb With Some Questions

Hello everybody!

I just recently signed up here as I am considering buying a BB6 sometime soon. I have been lurking and searching around for info, which I have found a lot. This seems to be a good site!

I have a few questions I cannot find a good answer for yet, and they are about the Canadian 2001 SE model.

1. In the 2001 SE, is the suspension the same as a Base, or SH model?

2. Did all SE models come with heater mirrors and heated leather seats?

I also have a couple other generic questions as well.

1. Being that the SE does not have ATTS, would it be easier/more cost effective to put in an aftermarket LSD or swap in a JDM transmission with factory LSD? This will be a street car, and I do understand the differences from ATTS vs. LSD.

2. Does the DC5 (ITR) steering wheel bolt up to the Lude without modification? I have seen them in the car, but couldn't find a yes/no answer.

3. Anything in particular I should look out for when buying, such as known problems?

Thanks in advance!

JDM LSD tranny would be easier but would also cost more.

I don't believe so.

Don't get an automatic, aka chik car.

Goddammit Kronn, there you go with your flaming generalizations again...

Yeah, Kronn got this one though, please, no auto's.

Here are a few other things to look for when buying or owning.

--Check for oil leaks. check oil level and ask owner if the know about the H22's oil consumption. If they don't, that may tell you it may have been run with low oil at certain points, which is obviously not good.

--Check the fluids like clutch, brake,a nd radiator. Any of those fluids being low may tell you the car needs work in the future.

--Ask if it has had the Timing belt changed, along with the opther things that need replacing at that time!(W-pump, belts, tensioner)

--Take it for a test drive if you can. Listen for the rear shock knock, any squeaks or clunks, and make sure it handles tight, hell, even make sure it's aligned. If you can't test drive it, at lteast bring it up and ask the owner about it. They may be reluctant to tell you, but their reaction may give something away.

--Ask about any parts ever replaced on the car/engine. Inquire about the clutch, tires, brakes, exhaust, etc.

--Check paint for scrapes/scratches, and ckeck glass for imperfections, because there are too many people that come on this site saying, "found something I didn't know my car had when I bought it, today ". It amy save you trouble and money down the road.

--Makes sure all accessories work! There was a guy that recently complained about his A/C not working, but he didn't know that when he bought it because he didn't check since he bought it in the winter. And now it's summer and he's suffering(I bet he could have knocked off a good amount from the price had he known that).

--Make sure all locks perform normal and all latches latch completely. My trunck doesn't latch correctly, and never has, but I never noticed it when I bought it, so now my trunk lid has to be reclosed a few times every time I open it.

--Try and check all wires, lights, and such.

--Ask for possible maintenence records of any sort

--Ahhhhhh YES, one of the most important things that I and many others forgot to do. Ask for EVERY key they have. There should be(from the factory) 2 Black key's, one Grey "Valet" Key, and One (very important)RED KEY! Make sure you have the owners manual. And just for fun, ask them for the window sticker. If you need infor explaining the "RED KEY", look here: Your keys, immobilizer, and you! What you need to know. - Preludepower.com

Whew! Good luck, man.

You can put this steering wheel in, it is not that hard to do as it is still a honda factory wheel, becareful when dealing with the airbag as an unprepared activation can cause serious injuries. I do not have a write up or a link but i will look for one and link it up here at a later date(why the dc5? most people swap out the ap1 or ap2??just a thought). The dc5 wheels look nice as well though. good luck.

Awesome, thanks for the replies!

I will NEVER buy an auto car, manual for life haha.

Still a bit curious as to how to get the DC5 steering wheel to fit, but I can just search around more. It's my favorite OEM wheel.

He adressed the red key. So I inquired to it's purpose. Reasonable?

Use it, tell us what happens. LOL

JK, Red key is a last resort if you lost your other key. It blows away the imoblizer. Start the car with the red Key and thats the end of the other keys I think. I never used mine so I can't be sure. its still in the blister pack.

You ****ing morons. All of you. I edited my post after I had noticed from his inquiry about information reguarding the RED KEY. So I added the link.

Kronn, it was a reasonable question, leave him alone.

And my housemates probably think I'm nuts cause I'm laughing very loudly at early o'clock in the morning.

Truly a great exchange.

Seeing as how I own a fourth gen... electronic immobilization system in addition to car alarm sounds like fun!

Perhaps a project.
