Freak gasoline accident at Chevron. Is my Prelude ok?

Ok, so it's not that crazy, but basically I was filling up my car at Chevron and the pump didn't shut off like it's supposed to, it kept pumping gas and overfilled my car. I noticed pretty quickly but it spilled gas on my car. I looked in the gas tank and could see it was so full there was gas sitting there at the opening. After a minute or so, when I looked back at the tank, there was no "excess gas" sitting there, so I assume there was still some room in the tank, and it drained back in.

Anyway, I'm assuming this is a problem with the pump and not my car, but I just want to make sure. Also, could this in any way cause damage to my Prelude?

Thanks for the help.

PS. I was filling up after making a long road trip. The good news is, I got about 29 MPG over 400 miles

Its more than likely fine i have seen this happen multiple times on road trips on pumps that look pretty old or neglected.Clean off the paint that was in contact with and call it a day. Keep an eye on your gas gauge if it never moves there's a problem.

Thanks for the advise. My only concern was that maybe I waited too long to fill up, but the gas light had just come on as I was pulling in the gas station, and I had about 2 gallons left. I usually fill up before the light even turns on; the last time it turned on I still had like 4 gallons left when I filled it up.

If thats your concern without a doubt your fine. That two gallons is plenty for your fuel pump. Now if you ran completely out of gas there is possibility of the pump failing. If the pump continually pumps air its prone to failure.
