M2U4 transmission i know quantity but is it OK to use synthetic 5w30? or is the Honda MTF a MUST?? Just wondering b/c local parts store doesnt sell Honda MTF
interesting......i know a parts guy at a honda dealership who swears by using molbile 1 5w30 in his trans. i have heard others also who use norma motor oil in thiers trans but most of them have b series and there is one guy who has a d16 and uses eneos oil in it. I have yet to hear any of them complain of failed transmissions.
as pIERCE has pointed out, motor oil doesnt have the right additives, no friction modifiers for the synchros to bring things to the same speed to allow a smooth shift. motor oil will just keep the synchros slipping bc it has no friction modifiers so you will grind. i have personally witnessed this.

Dont really have 5 days to wait for mailed fluid...
yes i have used this as well as the GM synchromesh for numerous miles in two different ludes with no problems. personally i love it much better than honda mtf.
alright sweet, yeah hodna dealers around here are pain in the ass i dont want to try to deal with them, and advance auto and autozone near me only sell the penzoil. I used to use 5w30 in my del sol transmission (d15b7) and it worked just fine for a long long time, but new transmission will need new things

many of the older hondas did in fact call for regular motor oil to be used in the manual transmissions. but about 15ish years ago, honda started requiring manual transmission fluid be used instead of motor oil.
