Fluctuating Idle - Driving me crazy!

Hi everyone,

Before anyone mentions, ive just spent the last 3 hours searching, searching and more searching so please excuse me if this has been covered, but I couldnt find anything.

I have a really strange idle problem.

When cold, the car idles around 1600rpm, then after a short while or if I blip the throttle, the idle just quickly rises to 2k, then blips down to about 1200, immediatley rises to 2k, then blips down to 1200, and so on and so on. It constantly keeps doing this ALL the damm time and its annoying.

It does this when cold and when its warm.

I have had the car stood for about 4 weeks and only started occasionaly to move it out of the way, and this is when the problem started. It never did it before that, but I did have a slightly high idle problem before that, but nothing like it is now.

The car is an accord type r which is the h22a7 engine code.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ive just unplugged the TPS sensor and the fluctuation stopped and the rev increased to 2300rpm.

I plugged the TPS back in and the problem started again.

Then I unplugged the ICV and absolutely nothing happened.

Voltage measured at the TPS was .45v

Usually on H22A4 surging idle when cold is the FITV and IACV need cleaned. I'm not sure if those components are the same but type in those abbreviations and there should be a write up. Try that first it might not be your issue but its worth a shot and its free.

It might actually be your TPS because the idle surge stopped when unplugged. Did the voltage fluctuate when you measured it?

when I unplugged it the voltage went.

I can measure the TPS sensor when the car is rough idling if thats what you want me to do?

I also covered the throttle body intake with my hand until the car cut out, and I could hear some air gushing from somewhere behind the intake until all the pressure exhausted itself, would this be normal?

your problem sound close to my problem.

what i did was i adjusted the TPS. Just by a hair. I loosed up the bolts and then adjusted it until the fluctuation stopped and then tighten it back down.

I dont know if it will work or not, but its probably worth a try.

.45v at idle is normal for the TPS

only time I've ever had this problem was when I did the Throttle body coolent bypass. But it would only be a problem in cold weather.

you might want to check your TB and make sure the coolent hoses aren't just looped back to themselves.
good luck.
