First Time Owner, Help

sup men,

I just bought myself a fresh 1997 prelude last week, my first car ever. Only been summer driven so far, but sadly...I don't have the luxury of keeping it that way..so I need winter tires. I'm new to the whole car thing so I don't know anything, imma newb.

I brought it to the Honda dealership to get my inspection sticker and surprise surprise, i ended up paying $1200 for repairs (long list of small things, oil leaks at like 5 diff places). Is the Honda dealership a good place to bring it for repairs? or do you guys bring it to a random joe's garage? The Honda mechanic dude told me two things that I need to watch out for: 1. your engine burns oil, 2. sometimes there's blue smoke coming out the exhaust, 3. watch out for rust

I know preludes are known to burn oil...I just hope mine doesnt burn an excessive amount of it..

any tips on how to minimize rust? I have to park outside in -30 degree Celsius weather.

Anyways I love my lude and I'm hoping to keep it, even after my parents tried to convince me to sell it after that $1200 bill.

The entire reason I made this thread was to ask if these rims are going to fit on my lude for my new set or winter tires.. please take a look and let me know !

They are 16 x 8 inches wide. The bolt pattern is 5x114.3 asking $200, the Mitsubishi logo is on them... but if the size is right it should fit?

First, where are you living that it reaches -30șC?

Second, the wheels might or might not fit. You need to find out the offset. Although I can tell you that 8" is the widest rim you can fit on the car without modification. I'd look for different wheels, honestly. Mistubishi logo + 8" wide + probably heavy = no good.

Third, the place to get repairs depends on the repair. For engine work, the dealership isn't a bad place to go. You just have to expect to pay 3X as much as anywhere else. It if isn't engine work, I'd go elsewhere.

5x114.3 is the correct bolt pattern. Good rim sizes are 16x7, 16x7.5, 17x7, and 17x7.5.

Allow me to prevent this from becoming yet another "will this wheel fit?" thread:

yeah. I am in the same boat. I have to buy winter tires too. I live in Japan where we have crazy hot summers, and it doesnt get that cold but its common to get 3 feet of snow over night. my prelude is lowered. I am going to have a hell of time driving this winter. thank god for ABS. This last winter my ABS engaged on average 3 or 4 times a day. just to stop a light or stop sign.
