Since its been really cold lately, my car has had trouble starting right away. Sometimes it will start after i turn the ignition for a lil bit, but other times it will roll over after the second attempt. I also noticed that i left my lights on for 5 mins the other day with the car off and it would barely start after that. i almost had to jump it. I replaced the plugs, wires, cap and rotor 10k ago with iridium ix plugs. I think it might be my battery. Any ideas what the problem might be? Any suggestions for a new battery? Whats a really good battery? Any help would be much appreciated.
Sounds like a weak battery. Take it in and have it tested if you have doubts about it. In Canada, you can take out the battery and take it to Canadian Tire for free full diagnostics. Maybe autozone or some place like that will do it..... or maybe Walmart?
before getting a new battery id suggest trying afew tests first. check the batt with a volt meter, you should get about 12V car off , 14.5V car on. if thats all good id say move onto a battery load test. depending on the equipment you have available to you you may not be able to do these your self, but like kelly said theres prolly somewhere around you that can do the tests for you. if your battery turns out to be ok id say check the current draw at the starter, find spec from manual and compare to that. if its getting way too much amperage youve basicly found the prob, after that check voltage drop accross all components and wires in relation to the batt / starter.
or if you've got more money then time buy an optima red or yellow top battery and go from there
