Well I finished it up today. Overall I am pretty happy with the results. If I were to do it again I would do things a little differently. Overall my satisfaction level is 7/10.
I started out with aircraft paint stripper. Then I washed that off and cleaned the cover with brake cleaner. Then I wiped the cover down with paint thinner and let it bake in the sun a few hours to dry. I used VHT high temp wrinkle paint and put some thick coats on it. Ended up using the whole can, and looking back on things I put some of it on too thick. I then baked it in the oven at 200 for 1 hour. I left it in the oven to cool for about 4 hours. Then I baked it again for about 30 min. I let it cure for a few days and then today sanded off the VTEC lettering.
I painted the spark plug cover with duplicolor graphite wheel paint. I am going to paint my wheels, strut bar, and intake the same color.
All feedback welcome.

What should you torque the cover to when you reinstall it?
Not very tight. Specs are in the helms. After I get through with my timing belt I will get this back on and take some pics.

i'd assume the spark plug ports and the oil filler mouth.
but simply coat the rim and thread of the openings with chapstick or petroleum jelly. hell even brake grease works great. once done painting just wipe it off.

Yes I put chap stick on these areas.

how did you cover the open head? just a rag and closing the hood?
also how long before could you start up the engine?
Yes a rag over the valves. I was also doing a timing belt change at this time so it was about a week before the valve cover was back on the car.

i gotta say from the pictures it looks AMAZING. i'm definitely gonna try this really soon.
one question: if you could go back and do one thing different what would it be, and do you have any tips as far as procedure goes?
thanks

I don't know if anyone would be interested or not, but there's a guy on eBay selling powder-coated VCs for $60. It works like this. You use the Buy It Now feature, and tell him what color you want. He then charges you $100, and sends you the new VC. Then you remove your VC, install his, and send yours to him. He then refunds you $40. The prices might have changed as it's been a while since I spoke with him, but it seems like a good deal to me.

so you're buying someone's old valve cover, except painted?

A used VC is a used VC. Afterall, your own VC is "someone's old valve cover". Nonetheless, quality of VC and powder-coating are both guaranteed or your money back.

I like what you did with that. I've wanted to play around with painting under the hood, but i've had bad experiences with high temp paint. I think it was my prep work. Kudos though. Looks awesome.
Nice choice on the duplicolor graphite wheel paint though

I did the same thing like him...he probably used powder coating red paint...
You don't need to primed it but I primed mine with 4 coats
Do you read threads before posting?

Sold the prelude a few months ago and havent really been on this site.
To answer some questions I have been getting via pm.
I did not powdercoat this. I used VHT high temp wrinkle paint.
I had no problems baking it in the oven...except for the smell it left in the house for a few days...lol.
I did not prime...simply stripped the valve cover to bare metal and used the high temp paint.
I did not clear coat the valve cover.
