I posted this Email on HP.com, but I wanted to get as many ideas as possible so I'm gonna post it here too.
This is my first time writing on the discussion board, but I've read alot of the threads here and seen some awsome setups. Unfortunetly, no one has answered the Exhaust question in a complete fashion. I'm looking for a quiet exhaust system that matches the quality of some of these popular aftermarket systems. Here's my experience with some of the exhaust labled "quiet":
Greddy EVO: I've heard it on many Civics. I dont know who really thinks this unit is quiet. Its not ricey or buzzy, but it has a low rumble that it intrusive in and out of the car. I know a few car owners who aren't happy with their purchase of this system. I like its looks and it must really do wonders for turbocharged cars, but the trade off in sound is too high a price for me. If my car was a track-only car, then I'd get something loud and get some earplugs.....
DC Sports Dual-Tip: I've read that this was a quiet exhaust with a sporty sound. Its beautiful. Its completely polished and fits with no problems. Quality materials and none of those purple and rust colored welds I've seen on many Greddy systems (EVO included). Unfortunetly, I decided to buy it based on its quality construction, sound suppression and economic price. When I saw the small muffler, I knew I'd made a mistake. It coudnt be much louder. It turns my interior into a resonance chamber and its become annoying to me, my family, and my ladyfriend.
If anyone is into systems that sounds like the EVO but has a better finish, I have a 3 day old unit for sale.... in mint condition... If DC sports made a quiet system with the quality it puts into its other products, I'd be all over it.
Apexi World Sport: I haven't heard it yet, but even Sport Compact car magazine said it was quiet. They used it on their project Civic and they are pleased with its finish, hp gains, and sound suppression.
Thermal Stealth(classic) Dual tip: I just emailed a guy who really likes this system hopfully we'll meet and I'll see.
If anyone actually knows which systems combine quality, sound suppression, and moderate gains, please sound off and lets lay this discussion to rest the right way...
k dude your new so you deserve some slack. i belive the by majority vote Apex-i world sport is the quietest only flaw i hear is it hangs a little low (only a problem if you are dropped)
many good topics have already been discussed try the search feature next time
Are you looking for "stock" quiet? I think everything in aftermarket is various stages of louder than the "stock" exhaust system. If you want quiet- why change the stock stuff?? I have read a ton of threads about this topic and I wanted something that I could hear but would not be "real" loud or "too, damn loud" whatever that means. I installed the Thermal Classic (no stealth model available for 5th gens but factory says its the same anyway) and I am extremely pleased. When you get "on it" you can hear it and when your not "on it" you don't. Won't wake all the neighbors unless you really want to, and that's what I wanted. I roll the windows down and use it for my ICE if I want. All this is IMHO.

schwett has a thermal and it's LOUD as fu_ck but it looks wayy closer to stock than most. Sprint also looks like stock if i remember. my rs*r is almost sounds like stock( (from the inside) depending on how i drive even with the amount of mods i have done to my car.

Also, Mugen. It is extremely expensive. But I do not regret it at all. I have ridden in Prelude's with the thermal and the mugen is much quieter. Mugen sounds exactly like stock. It just has a lower pitch. Between 4000-5200 rpm you begin to hear it, and then it completely drowns out. IMHO it is by far the best. I've heard the thermal, greddy, custom, and I am in love with my mugen, and lots of other 'luders are too.
get a turbo, that'll quiet down you exhaust quiet a bit

The sound also depends alot on your setup. Header/intake/high flow converter will all make your exhaust louder and deeper... but you'll have more power to show for it!

I have to agree with this. I just install my RS*R on my car last night and I have a hard time telling the difference from stock. My AEM CAI is louder than the exhaust. Almost too quiet.

I have seen alot of exhaust systems and mugen is by far the best if you don`t mind paying $975 for it.Just like stock till you get into vtec and well that is another story but if you are hitting vtec you shouldn`t mind that extra tiger roar comming from the back of your car.It sounds so good.I am going to get one.
I have heard of some people gettin the performance piping then puttin on there stock exhaust and it sounds stock just alil deeper and have heard good gains...

i never heard of this but was thinking about doing taht since i don't want a big muffler..anyone have any experience/idea of gains with this? i had a Greddy PE before and i liked it, only problem is the canister hangs too low, i just got a greddy SP recently, its clearance is much better but ****t is soo damn loud, drones too much!! u guys think putting my AEM Cai back on will quiet it down a bit because i've heard lots of people talkig about thier exhaust being quieter after having intake & header on

I noticed the exhaust was louder w/ header and ca intake. Anyone else?
For those that don't want a loud exhaust I suggest staying away from the GReddy power extreme. I threw one on my girlfriends 5th gen a while back and have pretty much regreted it ever since. It really starts to wail when you get on it. But... for those of you that enjoy loud exhausts, this might be the one for you.
