Hey for you 2000 ss lude owners, how much miles u got on ur lude? who had their tranny ?????? up? only reason im asking for 2000 is cuz i heard 97-99 tranny blew but not dat much on 2000 and 2001. so can u tell me how ur ludes going now? does da tranny mess up cuz da way a person drives or is it just dat weak?
Did I beat my tranny? No it's never seen a neutral drop or anything too severe. Consider this - one improper clutch clearance, or poor functioning solenoid and part of the tranny will begin to self destruct. This Honda transmission is very complicated, and the littlest screw up in construction will break it. That is why this transmission is so difficult to rebuild too. The point is there are a few (too many for a Honda) that have slight mistakes that will slowly destroy the transmission. Honda has since done away with the transmission (it's $$$ and a liability).
wait, i just thought of this just now. if you guys talk sooooooooooooooo much shiiit on the ss lude. why do you still have one? why not sell it and get the good ol'5spd? or how about not driving so rough on that quote"POS honda" tranny.

They're still featured in the Type S Acura models. Not done away with, just greated improved since the prototype slapped into the Prelude.

97 lude with 46k. No problems unless the previous owner had some problem.
EDIT: Oh and if it does go out then I'm trading it in. Maybe for a WRX

if the tranny does ??????, if i trade it in without fixing, they wouldn't give me a lot would they? cuz if it does go out on me, ill probably get a new car, i mite consider the new max dats suppose to have around 300 horse if its true

I have 16K on my 2000 and no problems. Seems like the only people having problems w/ their "POS Honda Tranny" are mostly from the "racing scene" There are thousands of SS Honda Preludes built and I don't think a big company as American Honda would let their quality control let something like "POS trannys" pass. Much less from 1997? Their rep is based on reliability. I don't think they would decide to start compromising that, now especially, on one of their higher performance models. Whether you have an SS or manual, if you don't take care of it, consider it gone.

Mine 98 SS has 51k on it and it runs perfect, it even been in an accident a year ago too and the damage was $11k..yes..eleven thousand dollars!!!. I race mine at the track like 2 times a year, but i used the automatic mode like 98% of the time when driving. There were several time that I had the car in SS and forgot about shifting it, I thought i was in regular auto mode,so ended up redlining it and everything . The bottom line is.....mine SS is fine, I just don't understand how some people's transmission can be blown with less than 20k miles.

vietlude- yah, I feel the same. mine's working just fine..98 about 26k miles drivin hard. there's got to be a reason why the tranny is going bad on some... but no one can identify it. that's the problem with this issue. what's the root cause?
i dont know the exact figures, but I bet 70% or more are auto lude's out there...and only a handful has problems.
