I apologize if this has been answered - I tried finding old posts and and couldn't find anything to answer my issue. I have an 01 with the stock audio system, which I've been happy with. However, I noticed that my rear speakers mostly stopped working recently - I say mostly because with the fade full rear and the balance full left, I get a little bit of high, tinny sound.

For a while I had a lot of crap in my trunk, so I'm wondering if something knocked the feedback amp - is this a possibility? I'm not seeing any broken wires, so I think that drops it to the amp, the speakers, the feedback unit, or less likely the head unit (which otherwise works I fine).

I'm trying to avoid replacing the head unit, but would be fine testing speakers, the amp, etc. if I had any guidance. Any ideas what to look for or test?

The amp would be hard to break, it's in a solid metal box. More than likely your speakers are blown. The factory speakers are made of paper and foam, and they are 12 years old.

Thanks, ill start by testing those. Assuming they're done, do I need any special replacement speakers because of the acoustic feedback system or will anything that fits do?

You can use any speakers, but the acoustic feedback system won't work anymore with aftermarket speakers. It will make the rear speakers play in mono.

It also possible to bypass the acoustic feedback amp if you want. There is a writeup here on how to do it.

Also, I think I remember someone keeping the oem mics and mounting them on the aftermarket speakers therefore retaining the feedback system. I may be wrong but I seem to remember that.
