factory alarm system

I have the factory alarm on my 98 Prelude, and it doesn't work. I press the remote, and the light comes on, but nothing happens.

Although I am being very vague and can't really describe the situation much further, any idea on what the problem could be? I know it could be numerous things, but if someone had this problem before, what was the problem?

I'm still thinking that it's the remote. Maybe it was dropped too much, and the light goes on when you push a button, but it just send any signal out. The dealer tried to reprogram it for me, but it didn't work, so they said that something is wrong.

I'm hoping that it isn't the alarm unit, since that would be a costly repair.

Thanks in advance.
-Brian.

Isn't the factory alarm suppose to be a lifetime warranty? The damn thing costs like 700 bucks.. rip off in my opinion.

Is it supposed to have a lifetime warranty? I doubt that on Honda accessories.. I've heard things of that sort about DEI and aftermarket alarm systems.

The alarm was installed by the previous owner.

Thanks for your response, checkmate.

I'm not a fan of stock alarms. Get an aftermarket one and u can do more tricks with it. Just to add that my buddy had a Mitsubishi Eclipse 97 with a stock alarm. Stolen and found in a parking lot all stripped down. And to make a statement, they hammered his valve cover and made a big crack on it. Anyways, just to let u know alarms can try to slow down dem thieves...but if they really want it...****...dem MF will take it. Make sure u have insurance!

$700 OH my god, what kind of alarm system is that. Better be able to protect your car like there is no tomorrow. I spend $500 on an after market Viper alarm, and I got window and sun roof close option, and trunk release too and etc. Do you get that from spending $700???

Well, the factory alarm came with the car..

Also, I like the look of the factory alarm key fob.. dont like the look of the DEI or Crimestopper, or the other aftermarket ones.. the only one that looks decent is the Alpine with the pager, but then again, it is pretty expensive.

I live in a decent area and dont drive to the city or anything so I dont think my car will get stolen. It's not garaged, but blech.. my car is stock.

I guess I'll invest in that autolock thing anyways.

Basing your decision for an alarm on the keyfob isn't the best way to go.

Haha.. that's true. But the Honda keyfob looks so much more stylish than any aftermarket one

I really want to get this to work because I want to use the keyless entry function.. since my car is stock, I figure an autolock will be sufficient.. knowing my luck, these shall be my famous last words

Actually the factory alarm is a DEI piece, it's just built specifically for Hondas. Just like Code Alarm is doing all the Ford stuff now. Without a doubt you can get a much better alarm for $700. And at the shop I work at we give lifetime warranties on all parts and labor for every alarm, keyless entry and remote start we put in. I'd defenastrate that thing and get a real alarm.
