So here's the problem: I ordered a JDM h22a engine off of my mechanic, as my stock h22a4 in my 5g prelude blew. I towed my car to his shop and when I got here, he said that they ran out of that engine, and instead they shipped him the f20b. At first I had never heard of this engine, but he said that it made more horsepower than the h22a and it was a much better engine, and he'd give it to me for the same price. I said okay, yet was skeptical. I went home and researched the engine, and found out more about it. Yes, I know if it came off an SiR then it only makes 180hp, and manual makes 200. I went back to him and called him out on it and he said he made a mistake, that this engine only makes 200 at the crank. And I said great, now he's telling the truth. So I said, okay, this came off of an SiR-T, correct? It has the type-s cams? He said that it came off an automatic type-s euro spec something blah blah blah (he's hard to understand, English is not his native language). So I said, okay so this is only making 180 at the crank. Again he insisted that it makes 200 at the crank, even though it came off of an automatic tranny. The engine does look in excellent shape through, almost brand new.
Here's my question: Is there some really rare engine out there in Europe where an automatic f20b was still manufactured with the larger throttle body and type-s cams, and when attached to a manual tranny will be able to make 200 at the crank? (Yes, the f20b will be bolted to my 5 speed h22 tranny).
I have heard pretty good things about the f20b motor. Never in a prelude though.. At least they dont have FRM sleeves. Check Honda-Tech if you want to know what they can do.
The only thing the f20 is better for is a turbo build because it doesn't have FRM sleeves. Since you are not doing said turbo build, you got screwed. However, since you agreed to it, you probably won't be able to get your money back. That sucks man. Go raise hell with him and maybe he will give you a refund, but to be honest, if I was in the mechanics place, I wouldn't give it back. You should have told him no before he put it in.
Yeah I think I'm screwed at this point. I have a HUGE ass throttle body that will fit it though, so would my best option at this point be to buy aftermarket camshafts, like skunk2 or something to make all that power back? I know it's a lot of money after the amount I already spent, but my ultimate goal here is to make 200+ whp by start of summer.
jdm euro r = h22a with 220ps. f20b is I think around 170ps not 180. He's lieng to you fully. You are too weak you need to be abit more stronger and tell him he ****ed you over refund time would be great. and no way in hell would it make 200ps at the crank no way not possible. type s pistons? those cant work with the f20b correctly but it doesn't matter h22a eats the f20b unless you turbo but still then I would rather have a better engine than both
Unfortunately the engine is already in my car. If I really really wanted to I could probably ***** at him until he gives me the h22a, but I'd have to wait another 3-4 weeks for it to come in. I've been out of a vehicle for a while so I really need my car back. I guess I'll just have to see how it performs. My car has a huge throttle body, intake, cat back exhaust, aftermarket performance clutch, and getting racing headers soon, and its still a 5 speed, so maybe it wont be so bad after all.
Plus I'm turboing it next year. I had planned on rebuilding and turboing the h22a but since I have the f20b now, maybe it will be better.
