Extended Warranty on Lude

Hey guys and gals,

Can you guys tell me about the extended warranty on our prelude? How much, how long, and cover what? I wasn't offer one when I bought my car new a few months ago. I really hate my Honda dealer! Also, is there any where else to get this extended warranty or do I have to go back to the damn Honda dealer where I bought the lude? Thanks for any info!

If you plan on doing any modifications to your Honda, don't get the extended warranty. The warranty is for a few (I think 3) thousand dollars and for 3 years. Correct me if I'm wrong. However, it doesn't really matter. Your warranty is limited....very very very very limited. Personally, I wouldn't invest in an extended warranty. I believe there's no such thing as a warranty because most dealers will find a way not to honor it and have you pay out of your pocket. I speak from experience on 3 cars. Good luck.

Hondas warranty is nothing but Bulls*hit IMO. They rarely cover anything. Don't waste your money on get the extended warranty, expecially if you plan on modding your car

If you buy a extended warranty, make sure it's a Honda extended warranty. not an aftermarket one.

I paid $860 to get mine from Honda. I think that warranty work depends on the dealership. I have never had a problem. To me it was worth it. It's paid for itself already (rear wheel bearing and a ****ed up oil pan from a stupid teenage oil changer at dealership)

I inherited a 7yr/100k mile HondaCare warranty when I bought my 'lude and it doesn't matter what Honda dealer you go to.. just pick the one that's best. I've used it once already to get an entirely new air conditioning system for free... saved me about $800 all told.

We bought an aftermarket warranty for our old CRX, can't remember the name of the company, but they were great. Just had to take it to a state registered mechanic, they figured out what was wrong, mechanic made a call, got an approval everytime- no questions asked. They paid the mechanic directly too! Cost us like $700 for up to 7 yr. or 75k, paid out over $1500 fixing odds and ends on the Rex, the biggest: a new altenator- twice!

Why do you say this? Do you know of people that have had bad experiences? All of my experiences with my local honda dealership have been rotten, and I cringe at the thought of spending another dime with them.

I bought an aftermarket warranty 7yr/100k mile, and it is nice that you can take the car to any certified mechanic...This to me is nice because normally regular mechanics want to make money, and won't care so much about aftermarket mods.

I bought an extended on my 97 base because at first glance it looks like it covers alot. So far I've had 2 semi-major problems with the car and the warranty didnt cover either of them. Clutch master cylinder and a cracked radiator. Total with parts and labor about 750 dollars. Even if you get an extended warranty you will probably have a deductible (mine is $250) so in the end it's probably not worth it.

get the extended warranty. ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE AN SS. i didnt want to get it but they talked me into it somehow. damn salesmen. anyway, my car had 50,009 miles on it and the trans completely blew. well the warranty that came with it ended at 50000 and the extended took it to 75,000. believe me its worth the extra 1000(what i paid) or so.

I got my 98 Prelude SS used, and it came with an extended warranty. As I recall, the warranty is good for 5 years, or 75k miles. I got it with the car, so I didn't have to pay any extra $$$$. I say you should get it since it's an SS.

I guess I'm lucky!

I guess I'm pretty lucky to have bought my Lude where I did, Roush Honda in Westerville, OH. The people there are absolutely wonderful! They have a very sweet deal for customers as long as you do all of your service there on time. Included in this with a $80 ONE TIME, FOR LIFE fee, you get a complimentary (100 mile per day) loaner car (current year Civic, usually, although my salesman has given me his demo before) whenever you are in for anything above an oil change. This is a very big selling point to me! I also like the fact that they're open until midnight almost everyday and have a mobile service unit. Here's the plan that I was talking about that is included at no charge, and yes they still deal with the price of the car too! Does anybody else do this? I know they are unique in Ohio with this!

"WHAT IS ROUSH HONFIDENCE?
Roush Honfidence is our way of expressing conFIDENCE in HONda automobiles while encouraging you to allow us to properly maintain your vehicle. If you bring your Honda to either Roush Honda or Best Way Auto Care in accordance with our maintenance schedules, we will provide an attractive mechanical breakdown protection plan at no cost to you, other than the regular cost of properly maintaining your vehicle.

The highlights of this Customer Protection Plan are as follows:
100,000 Miles or 7 Years, whichever comes first
Covers specific components in the Electrical, Engine, Transmission, Front Suspension, Brakes, Steering, and Air Conditioning Systems
Includes a 24-hour Roadside Assistance Program
Simple Claims Filing Procedure
Your vehicle will be maintained by factory trained personnel

Moby-Serv hit the roads of Oho back in 1990. Today we are specializing in providing quality service for Honda and Acura automobiles at a number of businesses throughout Central Ohio. With our all-season trailer we provide scheduled maintenance, brake work, tune-ups and a number or other maintenance and repair operations. We average 21 days a month on the road and usually service 15 to 20 cars each day. Our Moby-Serv technicians are ASE Certified with years of experience."

Oh yeah, one other thing. Roush has been offering the free doubling of the factory warranty for over 10 years. They told me that it has been very worth it for them b/c the cars are so reliable! They very rarely take a bath with one, so they can continue to offer this.

You are lucky to have a Honda dealer as described above. My Honda dealer is the opposite. I really hate them! It's too bad your dealer is all the way in OH. Anyway, it sounds like I should get an extended warranty since I have a SS. However, I just don't want go back to my damn Honda dealer. Can I get this extended warranty from any Honda dealer? Thanks!
