Exhaust

Hey guys, lately I've been researching Cat back exhausts and I guess I may be a little picky. I just wanted to know what the best exhaust would be for right around $500-600. My main concern is it being to loud (i know that sounds stupid). I don't want something you can hear from ten blocks away and such. I understand that the cat. controls to some extent how loud it would be. I figured I would just go with a magnaflow cat. and keep it simple. I have been looking into the Greddy Evo 2 system. Let me know what you guys think. Thank you, Shane.

yeah I would say Greddy or Magnaflow are decent exhausts in that price range. Sound will depend on motor, header, downpipe, cat and what type of silencer.

RSR - Exmag. Best of the best in every aspect.

Whatever exhaust you get, remember that:

A Resonator is what dulls sound, quality exhausts have them, crap ones don't. They are usually in the straight pipe and just look like a larger bulged section.

Twin loop are quieter then straight exhausts and are less ricey.

Do not be concerned about power. The prelude hardly benefits from I/H/E alone (certainly not for the money spent). Be more concerned about sound and appearance.

Chambered exhausts like the Apex'i WSII, RSR EXMAG are quiet and relatively stock looking granted the polished piping and different muffler. They are chambered which means the exhaust is quiet. The chambers in the muffler slows down the velocity of the exhaust which in effect restricts power.

Straight through exhausts like the Apex'i N1, Tanabe Racing Medallion and so forth are just that. They do not have the chambers to hold back the exhaust flow. These exhaust typically will gain more power and allow for the other parts on the engine to work more efficiently.

In all honesty, the greatest exhaust is going to be one that you make yourself. Here's an example. KTeller · Service | Integrity | Honesty sells exhaust piping kits for our cars, even full exhaust that sound decent. But you can build your own.
For instance, 2.5" exhaust piping with two magnaflow resonators. With that you could buy pretty much any muffler you wanted and the sound would be pretty decent for a 2.5 exhaust. There's all sorts of combinations you can do when making your own.
