EVO install

I installed my EVO two days ago and...

I was really looking forward to the smooth quiet sound at idle and crusing RPMs... What happened? My EVO is backwards from everyone on this board. At idle, it has a very nice smooth deep note, but at moderate RPMs, there is ALOT of drone, yet at WOT, I can barely hear it over my AEM... I know the drone's not gonna go away with time, but will the popping and crap go away after it gets broke in?

The sounds you're hearing will change after a few thousand miles. First off, you wont notice a change in the sound produced from idle. At WOT, it will become deeper and definitely will not be quieter than your intake.

As far as the droning sound at cruising speeds, it probably sounds a little tinny now, right ? That will even out after a bit, but this system will not be quiet by any means.

Give it a couple of months to really break in. I never notice mine anymore unless I'm at WOT. It's a combination of the exhaust mellowing out and loss of hearing

Thanks for the input... I guess time will tell. I did forget to mention the nice gain in power, especially in high RPMs...

Yeah, I guess you could call the sound "tinny" right now... If it mellows out a little, I think it'll be fine...

Nice exhaust for anyone looking. Installation goes very smooth after you get the old exhaust bolts broke loose (which is almost imossible with it still on the car) I found it easier to D/C the old exhaust at the header (middle connection) and drop the whole thing...

Had the same experiance... but it gets better with miles.

Also, on mine, the gaskets were not proerly centered, They were sticking about 1/2 inch on the bottom side... It will retrict the airflow a little and I think it caused turbulance and caused my EVO to have a LOUD whirring (??) sound.

Anyway, I corrected this by ensuring the gaskets were centered and this stopped the whirring sound and seems to have mede the exhaust a tad bit quieter....

its sounds kinda , i hate to say it, ricey the first week or two. but i broke it in and i LOVE mine. there's nothing ricey about it. i put in my 4-2-1 header also, and it makes it sound a lot better with a little gain.

Thanks for the input... I'll check the gaskets tonight. I think I aligned them pretty good, but between holding it up, getting the rachet up there, and tightening it.. they may have gotten a little off
