Hi,

Mine is a 2001 SH. It was purchased last October at Pace Honda in New Rochelle, NY (the only dealer I could find a black SH in NE area with virtually no mileage on it). The car has only 1,600 miles as of now since I put it away during the winter. Anyway, as for the oil consumption the story goes like this: my factory-filled oil was about 1/4 inch above the maximum mark on the dipstick when I first got the car. I pampered the car for the first 1,200 miles keeping the rpm well below 4k. Hit VTEC less than 10 times after that. Lately I noticed that the oil level has dropped down to the max mark which I figured roughly 1/2 quart of oil has been consumed. No leaking observed whatsoever. I plan on pampering it for another 1,000 miles and see how it goes. I was kind of worried cos my previous 95 VTEC never burned any oil at all.......

Where in CT are you located? I'm in Waterbury here. Been to Schaller Honda few times last year and saw three silver ludes on their parking lot. Did you buy one of those?

I had been using mobile 1 oil for about 2 years untill recently, when I talked to a friend of mine about the oil consumption. He suggested that I switch to a non-synthetic. I did switch about 6 months ago and I am burning less oil, I don't really know why but I have had my prelude for 3 years now and it has always burned alot of oil with the mobile 1. Just a bit of info from a personal experience.

hmm...interesting...
Jade97sh - maybe you should try Castrol Syntec like i did. Since Syntec is basically a highly process dino oil, maybe is better for our prelude. I would never go back to mobile 1 after the differece i saw with the Castrol oil.

I really think there is something to the "dino" oil as you put it, that is better for our engine. I am no expert however. I think I will try syntec and see what happens.

I use Mobil 1 Tri-Synthetic. My car is a SportShift, has about 13k miles on it, gets VTEC'd every day, and so far has not burned a drop of oil that I could tell since I've had it, and I check it at least once a month. Who knows why some burn oil and others don't?

my 01 dont burn oil

sup fellaz, my SH 01 does not burn oil @ all.... as of right now i have about 3800 miles on her....my first oil change was @ 1000 miles to get rid of all the metal deposit from the break in period....i've change my oil @ 1000 miles w/ 5.1 quarts of regular mobil oil..., right now i'm @ 3800 miles and my oil level is between the first and second hole (i just checked yesterday), so my SH 01 is not buring any oil, and my next schedule oil change is @ 4000 miles....hope this helps...

If its in the middle, between the top and bottom hole, then you're probably down by about 1/2 a quart...a 5.1 qt oil/filter change should put you very close to, if not exactly on the top hole.

Half a quart is GREAT...but, you may not be down at all. It really depends on the oil change. After a complete drain, I have to add 5.1+ to get to the top mark. Then I just monitor it from there.
