If the engine light was reset, can an OBDII reader be still able to retrive the error?
I am asking because, after doing a compression test done by the mechnic, when everything was all done, noticed the light turned on on its first start. So I told him and he just cleared the light and said that it probly triggered a sensor (it was the Cams).
Said to see if the light turns on again in a few days to come back.
So when I turn off the car and turn it back on, if there was really a problem, would the engine light turn on again or would it be ignored?
If the light is on Yes you can check the code with an OBD2 scanner. However as soon as u disconnect the battery or reset the code with a scanner it can;t be retrieved unless ur scanner can save data.. Also, yes and no about the light coming on when u turn ur car on. If it's a major problem it could come on right away, then u should get it checked out asap. However it could come back to u in a day or two or not at all..Just keep and eye out for it,chances are he did trigger something by doing it, it happens..

thats Pearl-Lude99, that answered some of my questions but not all,
I worded my question wrong, I am not talking about saving past history, what I mean is when the code is reset (lets assume there IS a problem), would a light come on once the car does a diagnoistic on its self or will it ignore the problem and not flash a light since its been seen and reset by the user (mechanic).
That's what i meant when i said "IF there is a major problem the light could come on right away, and by saving data the only thing i meant by that is a scanner can hold data sometimes,So if ur light comes back on u got a problem..
Other day I went on a long trip, approx 600KM. The CEL light and ATTS light on approx at 580KM, I checked the oil and some of the fluids, everything looked fine. Turn the car back on and both lights are still on, I continue for the rest 20KM where then I made a stop for approx. 3hrs.
Now I was ready to go back (another 600KM) but really worried about what the light could be. I turn on the car and both lights were not there...=S....made me happy but was still worried if there is still a problem. Any idea why both CEL and ATTS come on?
