Engine Heat

I have noticed that after I turn off my engine and i open the hood it retains a lot of heat. I know its normal for an engine to be hot right after driving it, but i think this is a bit excessively hot specially when I dont really push my engine i rarely go past 3000 rpm when i shift... The temperature needle is in the middle where its supposed to be and my radiator is working fine too. Should i be worried???

a very vague description of 'excessive' heat coming from your engine. You said that your temp gauge is showing 'normal' range of heat and yet you think the actual heat is excessive

If you aren't shooting out steam/fluid from under your hood and you say your radiator is 'working' then other than the oem heat shield over the headers then your engine bay will be hot after driving.

Unless of course you like to hug your engine when you get done driving - i dont see the cause for alarm just yet.

Typically one would assume that a metal block that has anywhere between 500 to 7500 mini-contained explosions inside per minute would get a bit hot...i guess people dont think like that though...Like Dog of War stated unless you've got smoke/steam/FIRE in your engine bay you should be fine, just keep an eye out on the thermostat guage while you drive

Stop being assholes people! lol!

Compared to other cars and the heat they get they are alot more colder than our h22s. There really isn't much you can do with engine heat it will just be there no matter how fast you go but I do notice if I keep the car at 3000rpm on the motorway and straight after open the hood up it isn't as hot as when I rev at 3500rpm constantly obviously because of the explosions going on inside.

this was my 6th grade science fair project lmao!!

the "color" black is a colorless color thus its retains more of the sun's light. which in turn is white light. while the color "white" is a combination of all the colors in the spectrum. since it has all the colors it repels the light coming from the sun kinda like a mirror.

in a simpler way black attracts light(heat) and white reflects it.

there you have it........... lol

now for the other guy whos concerned about the heat under the hood. ever consider heat wrapping everything??? it might help.....

ok i mean heat as in I open the hood and I feel the heat!! I dont know any other way to explain it. I dont even have to get that close to the engine. Its abnormally hot on the frame by the radiator where the stick rest when you close the hood. I know for a fact that shouldnt be hot because the engine is not even in contact with it and i know i sound like an idiot but i thought this was the point of these types of forums to learn cr+ap!!!!

You really need to observe your car abit more. The radiator gets hot too you know not just your engine your frame will be hot because of that.

it is the point of these forums to learn, yes. As for the 'heat' man - your 'symptoms' are to vague for me to be able to help you, my honest advice: swing by a trusted mechanic you know and have them run out and take a look at what you are describing.... If you don't have a trusted mechanic - get one, but swing by your local honda dealership and ask one of the techs to just run outside and ask them what the deal is, .. man your engine bay is going to be hot.. there are a TON of factors - one being it is an engine, local temperature, color of your car, etc man..

As far as the front bar under your hood being warm, every piece of metal under your hood is going to be warm - i mean there are a few Ludes on here that probably have some NASA designed/machined parts that can enter the atmosphere - nordic97mist is working on that actually i think

You can learn the easy way or the hard way.

You can't expect people to spoon feed you information all the time.

So it sounds like you don't even have a basic understanding of how a car works and each of it's components. I would probably do more research before asking questions.

Btw of course it's hot...it's like you asking why the camp fire is so hot when you get near it.
