ECU - fried

Hi,

I have a '98 SH and my ECU fried. I'm looking to get a replacement but I'm wondering if I can run the base model ecu (p5m) instead of the sh model ecu (p5p). Of course I will need to re-program my key with the new ecu...

I think I should be ok as long as I get a 97-98 ecu. Can somebody confirm this?

As a side note, I converted to base earlier this year so I'm running a base model motor.

you could run a base ECU but you'll need to have the immobilizer reprogrammed to go with your key. You could also just convert to OBD 1 and not have to worry about an immobilizer system.

Cool. If I can't get an SH ecu then I'll rock a base one. Either way I'll need to re-program the ecu. Thanks for the clarification!

Wait...will a '99 - '01 plug up? Are the plugs or wiring different?

if you get an Auto ECU, you can convert it to a 5spd by simply moving a resistor. There's a write-up on H-T

The other thing is re-programming the immobilizer. I can't find my red key but I have my original key and I have a T-5 key will they work? Or do I absolutely need the red key?

I FOUND THE RED KEY!!!!! Disregard the previous post. I hope Honda doesn't charge an arm and a leg for the reprogramming.
