E brake dash signal. ?

after my car has sat for a few hours in my driveway with thr emergency brake up the light on the dash will stay on long after the brake has been released. is this a sensor problem? is the brake really still on? -it doesnt feel like it is- any thoughts?

Check your brake fluid level....I bet it's low. And that could also be an indicator that your pads need changing.

If none of the above apply, then you might have a bad sensor on the e-brake lever.

Its just the sensor sticking. Could have spilt soda or something there and now it sticks. You can always undtake off you center console(8 screws I believe) and unplug the sensor directly at the ebrake. That's what I did when mine started sticking.

It's probably the float attached to the cap of the brake fluid reservoir getting stuck. Remove the cap, jiggle the float around a little bit, and put it back on. My car does the same thing, has for awhile too.

If your pads get low ont he back it can also set the sensor off. Before you just undo the sensor have a check at the pads and the fluid and then go from there. It would be unwise to remove that sensore or unplug it completly as then you run the risk of driving with the ebrake on unknowingly and killing off your rear brakes.
