Does the VAFC tone down VTEC?

Is it just me or does a VAFC tone down the VTEC? I just don't see it being as loud.....

what needs to be cleaned? it is cold outside, around 0 celcius, probaly even colder since the car is moving...I just got the car about a month ago, so only seen VTEC kick in during cold weather

nope, I did reset it though, doesn't that mean it will go off the stock ECU settings?

the vtec solenoid. dosen't matter how cold it is out side it's the temperature of the engine. the colder it is outside the better. but if you try and take off when the engine is not up to temp it will bogg down.

Check your crossover settings and make sure all of the A/F ajustments are at 0. Just because you reset it does not mean it is using the stock ECU parameters. Remember, the VAFC can be installed on any honda w/ VTEC, not just Preludes, so if there is a preset in the VAFC for VTEC crossover, it may be different than a stock H22.

Engagement is very different, but VTEC itself should sound the same.

to answer your question: my VTEC did not sound like it was kicking in as hard when I had the engagement set to 4800. It has been sold since, and it kicks in harder and louder stock (5400). So no you're not crazy, you did notice a change. But I also didnt have it dyno tuned; I only set the engagement down before I had to sell it.

well if you tuned it on a dyno you would see a big spike in power when vtec hit, so usually the tuners lower vtec and it "hits" smoother and makes vtec seem less "strong" in your mind when really it is just smoothing the curve
i think it also makes it less noticable to the ears at lower rpm and your mind might be playign with you

either way go get it tuned

i lowered my vtec and gained like 18hp midrange or something where the curve flattened before vtec originally engaged

Yup. That's why I suggested checking the crossover b/c it's probably set at 4500 or so. Change it back to 5200 and you will feel that big jump in torque again, if that's really what you want.

exactly. get it tuned and lowered correctly for a smooth and more powerful curve. the big VTEC! engagement at stock rpms will impress people, so do what you really want.

at this point I just want to leave it to STOCK but still have the VAFC installed. Then in the summer (in 2 months) I will get it dynoed and tuned properly.

What are the A/F settings that I need to set to zero?

I am a totaly **** with this controller, this was just a gift yet I have no idea how to use it...=/..

anywhere I can read about what and how to tune a VAFC.

thanx guys...

You need a dyno w/ an Air-Fuel wideband or your own wideband 02 sensor to view your A/F ratio to tune it. You probably have neither, so you'll need to go to a dyno shop to get it tuned properly.

So did you mess with the settings at all?
if so I guess i would just reset them and leave it be till you can get it dyno tuned.

ya, I messed with the settings, I changed everything to +/- zero, and changed the VTEC engagment from 5800 to 5200. Now it kicks in earlier!

You guys are the best!!!

Didn't have a chance to test alot, its freezing outside.

Definitly will dyno during the summer.
