Does Anyone Run 4-Point Harnesses with Their Stock Seats???
like the title says.....i was flipping thru some of my old car mags and i noticed a couple of cars with stock seats and sparco harnesses...
is this possible/recommended in a 5th gen w/ stock seats???
can it be done?
im looking for something to hold me in a little more until i can get those torinos and custom brackets made
TIA

I would definitely be interested. The way I drive, I need a harness. Plus I just got new bronze / polished rota subzeros, kenki racing lugs and the car is flying.
I have seen stock seats with 4 pt. harnesses but those are for individuals that auto x and such. Its useless if you have them on and you're just a daily driver.
A racing harness can be mounted and used with the stock seats, however, I don't recommend it without a roll /bar/cage. Reason being that if you are in a roll-over accident you aren't able to move your head to the side, as you are with a stock belt, and the roof can come down on your head and cause some major damage.
I, along with my others, run my harness while autocrossing. Keep in mind that the setting is much more controlled, is on a flat parking lot, and the chances of hitting another car or rolling my car with my tires is very unlikely ---> possible, yes, but unlikely.
i was reviewing the write up on how to install the harnesses but what i noticed is that in order to mount the harnesses ala the write up you must remove your rear seat....
I run a 6 point in my 4th gen. I bolt the belt using the existing rear seat belt and driver seat bolt locations, just longer grade 8 bolts.
I don't recommend only a 4 point as you really need a 5th/6th point submarine belt to hold down the lap/shoulder belts. Also you could "submarine" down the seat without it. For us 4th gens we have to use a H strap between the shoulder belts to keep them together. There is no headrest hole to keep the belts close together.
In my case, when not autoxing, I fold everything behind the driver seat. Everything else looks stock.
One more thing, I suggest pull-down shoulder straps and a pull-UP lap belt.
it's a pretty cool idea
i would consider it as well, but my main problem is sitting inside my car with a big helmet.
darn it, why is the stock seat so high?
anyways, if you do decide to put a harness in, please don't do it like this guy!
i think it would be safer to bolt them down, then tie it around the headrest
The rear seats can be left in, but no one will be able to sit back there, as if they ever could.
Remove the center rear belts, unbolt the rear outside seat/shoulder belts, and tuck them into the trunk. While the rear seat is out, slip the 4-point's harnesses through the slots, bolt them to the floor, make sure nothing is twisted or rubbing, and put the rear seat back in.
My seats are in, but after Christmas (company form back east will be visiting) I'll be taking them out to put in a simple ABS deck that I can mount stuff to.
