DIY Valve Adjustment ...

Is it possible? Anyone ever do it or is it worth the trip to Honda?

where do I buy that tappet locknut wrench. I don't wanna buy a snap on one unless nobody else makes one.

the snap on is the 10mm piece to use for the bolts. the actual adjustment is done with the feeler gauges. at least, thats how i thought it went..

do you guys think I should do a full tune up on my car before I go to the dyno to tune my VAFC? I'm at 26k miles right now and the only maintenance I do on my car is engine oil. Would it make that much of a difference if I do a valve adjustment and spark plug change before the dyno?

id think it would be a good idea. i just got my car 2 months ago and now it has 38.5k miles on it. im gonna do as much of a tune up as i can: plugs/wires, distrib cap/rotor, valve adjustment, oil (engine and trans), fuel filter. i want to do it before the spring, when the track reopens.

I've talked to a few people, and the consensus is that the SnapOn too is definitely better. I haven't gotten one yet, but I am soon..

off the top of my head... the part number is ya8895 , and it's about $45... might want to check it online though.. www.snapon.com I'd imagine.

ya, I guess I'll try to save some bucks with the tune up and then blow it all on a dyno after everything is done.

hmm honda quoted me $80 to do it.

for me to do it, id have to spend $50 on the tool and however much on feeler gauges.

sigh. i guess its more fun to do it myself though =\

ya, I just searched about spark plugs and found a bunch of posts. No need to replace my wires yet. I think I'm going to do the following sometime before I go dyno:

1. replace cap and rotor
2. spark plugs
3. tranny oil
4. valve adjustment
5. engine oil

just to make sure it's in tip top running condition before I go in. Sucks cause I wanna dyno soon, but I'm only at 26k miles. Maybe wait to 30k just cause doing all that stuff is a little early, mileage-wise.

Does anyone have a pic of a worn VS new cap and rotor? If I check this stuff out, I'm not sure what I'll be looking for.
