distrubitor problem...help

ok...my car is running sluggish and i need to press hard on the gas for it to go, that all stated when i had a friend try to advance my timing trough the distrubitor, but while doing so the distrubitor would not bulge (move up or down) and now im running at an 11 degree. He says that my distrubitor is broken and need to replace it then i would be able to advance my timing properly....

please help with any opinion or suggestions...my prelude is a 97 base model bone stock with 150,000 miles im the 3rd owner

I had the same problem with my Lude. I replace the distrubor cap and the rotor inside but I also replace the spark plug wires and the plugs as well. It turned out that the cap built up some heavy carbon so the contacts on the rotor and the cap would meer properly. Price wise...it cost me $100 CDN for Honda spark plug wires, $40 CDN for aftermarket cap and rotor and $40 for NGK iriduim plugs...after that..it ran fine.

Your friend is an idiot. Don't let him do anything to your car. You can't advance the timing on a 5th gen prelude from the distributor.
