it is.

But are you sure you did it right? Warm engine, WOT while cranking?

I tested 250 on all 4. If I didn't hold the plate open, starting at about 180 the movement would go REALLY slow. Slow enough that if someone didn't know what to expect, or was only cranking a set number of times, would think my results were 180.

It does indeed make a difference.

I found testing cold vs warm made a difference as well.

Anything less and you will get incorrect readings. 150-ish, if that's true, means you've got significant problems.

250?? Correct me if I am wrong but I thought 250 compression was for JDM motors only? And 210 is the highest for USDM engines

Highest number will depend on what you've done to it, # of miles, and condition. You should expect something above 200 on ANY H22, regardless.

you read that correctly. 250psi. Type S pistons.

And 210 is certainly not the highest for USDM engines. I tested between 215-225 before the rebuild.

Try holding WOT, maybe 210 was low because "it doesn't matter if you hold it open."

Todd is of course, correct about the 200. Shocker. You also want similar numbers between cylinders, no more than 5-10% difference.

Should be a 5% difference or less.

WOT and warm vs. cold makes a fair difference. Usually 10-20 psi between the two. I also cant stress enough how important it is to allow at least 5-7 seconds to crank. Any less and you WILL get inconsistent results. You have to allow long enough for the motor to go through one full intake/compression stroke(s).

I'll try it again. I tried it cold and only cranked over a few times. I've noticed quite a bit of smoke above 4K RPM. It's got 140K on the engine and goes through quite a bit of oil.

I'd love to do a simple rebuild on it, but have never dealt with a sleeved block before. Would a simple hone be possible? What kind of $ am I looking at for parts.

Thanks,
Ryan
