my red E-brake light is doing something similar. This is the first hard rain we've had in Austin since I bought my car, so I'm thinking a connector or sensor is getting wet. It stayed on the other night for about five miles, but yesterday night and today it's been coming on sometimes when I'm coming to a stop. HELP me too!
There's a sensor in the center console that turns that light on when the ebrake is up. You need to go in there and probably tighten something down. http://www.helminc.com
Thanx for the link and the info (I'm guessing you've seen this question before? Is it in the FAQ?). I'm moving right now so I didn't want to order for about another week. I need to change my credit card addresses and phone number so online purchases can be verified.
it's probably not in the FAQs because i don't think that anyone ever narrowed it down.
i've had the same problem since november, except i've even taken the center console apart and checked the sensor, and that's not it. it seems like it gets worse with age, and if you slam on the brake pedal, it goes on and sticks... at least in my case.
the helm doesn't give me much insight, unless it's something in the pedal itself. and i couldn't find any additional info in the helm about it, so i'm stumped...

Anyone figure this out yet? I just started getting it. Happens mostly when I'm braking to a stop then goes away after a few seconds of rolling off. Sometimes though, it just stays on from the time I start my car.
Damn this sucks..worst problems to date for my 98:
Timing belt rattle
Driver side power window clunking sound
Headliner rattle
Some kinda body creaking sound which I can't pinpoint
Parking brake light problem..

exactly! no one seems to know what in the hell is going on.

Has anyone checked the Helm's electrical troubleshooting guide? would that maybe have something?
I'm still hoping mine's just a wet something or other. It looks dry today (for now). I'll go for a drive.
Ok you guys don't even need the helms for this one. Turn to the page about the brake warning indicator in the factory manual (the one that came with the car) and read what it says. A brake lamp the comes on intermittently or when you push on the brakes can be a sign of worn pads.
Have either of you checked your pads lately? The same thing happened to me when my pads were getting low (the "squealers" on the pads weren't working either) so I changed pads and it's gone. You might want to check your pad thickness to see if you're getting close to needing new ones.

you know, I was totally thinking about that since I did my front pads about 5K ago. The rears, though, still look pretty good (although I haven't changed them yet). Didnt want to shell out if I don't have to but I guess I am.
I was also waiting for the low pad indicators to start squealing, but I guess you'd have to almost be metal to metal for that to happen. I was on another Honda board and a guy who had the same brake light problem said he changed his pads and the light prob went away.
it's been happening to me with brand new pads/rotors and with old ass pads/rotors. it doesn't seem to matter.
problem is, i don't have a factory manual that came with my car, since i bought it used. i don't know all of these little fun tidbits. i'm not about to shell out cash for a manual, either. that's what the helms is supposed to be for.

You are forgetting something very important. If the brake fluid isn't filled to the MAX level in the master brake cylinder resovair, this will also turn the Brake light on. So check brake fluid, and check if the parking brake button is getting stuck.
nevermind...that damn light came on last night with no rain. today...raining and no light.
i hate not being at home - no ramps, jacks, no anything. guess i'll check it saturday when i get back to austin.
