Dextron ll in 99 prelude

My son accidentally put a full Qt. of dextron ll in his trans. over the weekend,will that hurt anything or should he drain and change all fluid out to honda ATF ? Thanks

I wouldn't worry about it, that transmission is going to break on its own anyway.

Is it Dexron II or Dexron III that he used? I would be surprised if your son was able to get his hands on a bottle of Dexron II these days. I would drain the transmission and refill with Honda ATF (or a compatible) fluid. It never hurts to drain and fill and automatic transmission, from a fluids standpoint.

Also, keep in mind that Dexron III and Honda ATF are very similar in composition. Mixing a small amount won't prove damaging.

Dexron II came out in 1972 and Dexron III came out in 1993. You guys should probably drain the trans and refill it with Honda ATF. And like thegamettt said, if you plan on keeping the car for a while, you should look into swapping in a manual trans, those automatic trans tend to fail.
