denatured alcohol to pass smog

Hey guys,

I went to get my car smogged today and BAM!!! fail!! I was over by 13 points on my HC at 25mph and over by 7 points on my No at 25. The car had been sitting for 6-7 months put new o2 sensor, new cat, new sparkplug wires, but i was running old and 1 pitch black spark plug. have you guys used alcohol to mix with gas to pass emissions. Its just by a few points, i did replace the spark plugs after i failed and trying again tomorrow.

I passed MD tailpipe emissions with denatured alcohol. I had a 406 ci 10.5:1 stroker in a '90 Dodge RC. Put 2 gallons of alcohol in the tank with approx. 5-6gallons of 93 octane. It ran like absolute crap, (down on power bad), going to the station. Passed the test with flying colors. In the test bay the motor ran alot better at rpm not being under load. Once I grabbed my test results I headed for the Sunoco and a fillup of high test and it was all good for another 2 years.

Now all they test here for are codes......so as long as the CEL isn't lit you're likely to pass here no problem. Government money grab....

You're test result numbers are so close to acceptable you should make it no problem. A gallon to a tank of gas should do it. Remember I passed a V8. Another trick proven to work is pull the PCV valve out of the valve cover and let it suck fresh air. That has helped me in the past too. As long as you don't trigger a CEL when you pull it, the motor doesn't know the difference and you're not pulling all the additional HC vapor into the intake stream.

I'd give it a shot. Worked for me and our reqmt's here aren't as bad as Cali but close..

I took mine to a honda only place and the lude should not have passed, but the guy basically looked at the unburned hydrocarbon rating and said ehhh don't worry about it, we'll write that up to experimental error... he skewed the results because he loves hondas so much
