Definitive Guide To the helms Manual

As you all know, the helms doesn't have an index. This can get VERY frustrating at times (whats the torq spec of the strut nuts? ah crud, gotta find where that one page is in the helms...) So I was hoping to create an index that we can all print out, and stick in the helms, or something. Just post whatever pages that you find that you use frequently here's some to get started:

Engine
Intake Air System: 11-130
Intake Manifold: 9-2
Header: 9-3
Exhaust: 9-4 (base) 9-5 (sh)
Oil & Filter Change: 8-6
Fuel rail and injectors: 11-124
Replacing Spark plugs: 4-21
Idle Adjustment: 11-115
Valve Adjustment: 6-9
Timing Belt removal: 6-14
Fast Idle thermo valve: 11-141
Thermostat Replacement 10-7
Alternator: 4-29
Troubleshooting Malfunction Indicator Lamp (CEL): 11-36
CEL codes: 11-46
Troubleshooting Driveability Issues with NO CEL: 11:40
PGM-FI System Description (required reading, there WILL be a quiz): 11-52, 11-53
Fuel filter: 11-127
Radiator Coolant replacement 10-5
How to change the thermostat 10-7

Transmission
Bleeding the clutch hydraulic fluid: 12-6
Replacing Tranny Fluid: 13-3 (manual), 14-122 (auto)
Clutch and flywheel section: 12
Clutch release bearing installation: 12-11
Manual Transmission table of contents: 13-0
Differential Preload adjustment: 13-40
Automatic Transmission table of contents: 14-0
ATTS fluid replacement: 15-67

Brakes
Brakes table of contents: 19-0
Replacing Brake Fluid: 19-7
Parking Brake Adjustment: 19-6

Steering
Reseting the SRS light 24-22
Power Steering: 17-25

Audio
Stereo System Circuit Diagram: 23-152
Audio Unit Removal: 23-153 (Also see section 20-48)
Acoustic Feedback System plug layout: 23-156 (use this for reference when bypassing)

Suspension
Front Suspension: 18-11
Front Suspension removal/installation: 18-20
Rear Suspension: 18-24
Rear Suspension removal/installation: 18-28

Interior
Dashboard Component removal (that piece around the radio): 20-48
Glove box removal: 20-49
Center Console removal: 20-45
Rearview Mirror Removal/installation: 20-15
Troubleshooting your fuel gauge: 11-129
Reseting the SRS light 24-22

Exterior

I've beem using Helms manuals for Hondas for nearly 20 years, pretty used to the way they are laid out. Got super goofed up once though. Was helping a PO member with his 96 Lude, since I have a manual for my wifes. I was looking for the wiring ID's for the ECU, having a hell of a time finding them, even with the indexes at the beginning of a section. Finally realized, the main manual is for a 95 with an update manual for the 96. Well duh, all the OBII stuff was in the 96 update manual, since that is when it started. Thought this little story might help save someone alot of wasted time down the road.

I was going to do this. You beat me to it.
I'll make this a sticky and at some point put all the info into 1 post so you don't have to scroll down through posts by other people to check if something's been indexed.

I'm going to add more and maybe have it in a table format??? For now I'll keep adding more every now and then. It's tiring doing all this after a full day of work.

I need to design and build a database as my final project for my Access class. I'm going to see if the Helm would make a suitable subject. Anyone want a Helm database??? I personally have not had any problems finding things in the Helm, but if I could use my final project in this class to make something useful for people, that would be cool.

I would use it! I haven't had time to do crap with the helms index.

access database? thats completely not portable. As i'm sure most of you do use windows, some of us dont. Besides its not the hard ... you just have to know what component system your working with ... which isnt hard.

I want to vest in the ideas of somehow transcribing the helms into a sql database and then making it searchable. I would have to commit so many other crimes in the process to make it safe that its not worth it ... but fun for my own sake anyways.

Wonder if anyone could help. Surfing around this site I once came across a entire shop manual for the 5th generation lude. I smartly downloaded and saved it on my laptop's hard drive which has since been replaced. I was looking to download and save the file again to my new laptop's hard drive, but I've experienced some difficulty locating the page/link which contained the information. Any assistance you may give/offer to help me find it again would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Don't know if you ever found your answer, it's a bit late but I was using this thread to find something in the helms...

You mean a Helms manual?

Well, you can buy them online on their website, but they are not the original prints, and do not come with all of the information that the original Helms came with however long ago.

You can find original Helms used, but that's pretty hard.

Just download on off of spoonhonda.com
