Decision On Clutch (installation price fair?)

I have been reading up on all the clutch threads that I considered helpful.

I've come to the conclusion that I will get a centerforce. I had one "know it all" tell me to stick with a stock clutch OR get an exedy stage II. I wanted to punch him in the face.

Anyways, so with the flywheel...8 lbs? I've read that on here as well...

Second. My mechanic estimates roughly $600 for the labor to install it. He asked me if my car has ATTS and added, "please say you don't...", which it does...and says it's extra work. He has always been fair with prices and has never bs'd me...even down to not charging me for things that other places would take the opportunity to. He generally charges around $62/hr. This makes the install a bit over 9 hrs to install.

Just seems so dang expensive...

Honda OEM clutches are made by Exedy, which is what I ended up putting on my car when I changed mine a couple years ago.

IMO, honest/good technicians are hard to find, and it sounds like you have some good history with him. Seems like a fair deal to me considering he's gotta deal with your clutch job. Believe me, there's some shops that'll refuse to this clutch job. Just a high risk for a comeback.

It may be expensive, but there's always the alternative: You can put that $600 in labor and spend it on tools and such to tackle the job yourself.

look for a specialty shop. i found a place thats installing my stage one for 400$ and thats not including fixing the flywheel. but that shouldnt be much more then 50$$

shop around but so far sounds like a pretty good deal man. dealer said it would be 1,700$

Mitchell flat rate for a clutch job on an SH 8.6hrs
Mitchell flat rate for a clutch job on a base model 6.5hrs

add .3hrs for rear main seal which should be done at the same time.

Da_lude,

Nothing wrong with them...at all. From what I understand (from reading) is that the stage 1 and stage 2 require more pedal pressure. I drive it daily and it's in-town mostly. Stock vs Stage 2 seems like a huge jump. Like comparing lemons to strawberries.

I've read on here and have been told by 3 out of 4 people I personally know that Centerforce is the way to go.

I think this "kid" even though he's 25 is one of those types who just sticks crap on his car without really knowing exactly what it does. He doesn't race it and has a clutch that is made for it. I just don't see the point.

I don't think I'll be tackling the job myself any time soon. Hubby even said "h*ll nah..." lol. He's not a Honda guy...he's got a 96 chevy caprice, so yeah

Thanks for the input! I've been laying low for the past week reading up. I'm at my limit for comprehension of all this, so sorry if it's monotonous. I've seen prices ranging from $400 to more than $800 and just wanted an opinion

Oh and I'm a girl eaglelude
